Let's play a game of 'How do we get the Setterfield Trade done?'
  • Pick 43
  • 2019 2nd
  • 2019 2nd + 43 for Setterfield + Finlayson
What other suggestions do we have?

SOS will need to get the Setterfield trade done while he’s pick poor. Once that’s out of the way it’s game on.
Can’t see it happening any time soon.

If I’m GWS, I’m spending my time worrying about Lobb and Shiel not a kid that’s played 2 games.

Might work to our advantage too they will be busy, might just do something to get it done and off there plate. SOS should ring them on the hour every hour

All these mental trades including us ending up for picks to take rankine...HE WILL NOT BE PICKED BY US.

He will almost certainly slide to an adelaide team, so hopefully someone makes them pay for it.

Probably 0% chance. But imagine that happening and pulling the rug out from beneath Essendon for Shiel (as GWS would ultimately keep him if that happened).

Would be hilarious.

Interesting this pick swap is being mentioned now when if it did eventuate, either pick 2 or 3 could then be involved in a trade for Shiel.

Would be great to do the trade for 2 & 3, trade 3 for Shiel and Setterfield and go to the draft with pick 2. Something like that.

Great point Harker. A champion team will generally beat a team of champions.

It's why i'm not interested in Kelly...given North's hard on for him he'd cost at least $1.2 million a year and 2 first round draft picks.

I'd much rather go for a FA like Coniglio or someone in the calibre of Neale.

Unless Suns are taking the Kings. Which would make a helluva lot of sense in a year where they're losing Lynch and May. Kings together may well prove a whole lot stickier on GC.
It does make sense, but what if they don't want to come as a package, like Harry and Ben, who didn't want to play in the same team. I could see an unwanted stigma of being compared to your twin all the time. Heaven help the lesser one.

This and we don’t have the hand to make them pay for it. Gold Coast do, (with 2 and 3) sit down with Adelaide and Port and tell them best offer will get 2.

Cash in GC

I do. Great minds think alike. Offer now while we have pick 1, as next year he is a FA, and may leave GWS for peanuts. Hope you and I are right.
He isn’t a FA next year just out of contract

So GWS get what they want for him next year or chuck him in the draft and he is off to GC.

No incentive for them this year

But only if we fail in-season again, which won't be wanted. Rowell is #1 as we speak (Clayton Oliver mach II?)?
Literally a jet

I can't see us finishing higher than 17th next year.
Try looking up

Can't trade our future first if we've already traded our future second... we'd need a deal that brings a future second back in.

My point exactly ...

IMO we have the midfield. It's just young. Look at my post in List Management listing who we have and their roles. It's a talented as any you will see.

After having a good look at our list we need to add talent this year. Can't keep stretching it out. If the option was to trade Pick One & next years first round for a couple of top 10 picks this year and some quality mature talent I would definitely do it. It's what we need and the sooner they all start working and developing together the better.

should stick a youtube clip of that song 'let it go' from that Disney movie on the thread ;)
The Snowtown glows white tonight
Not a McGovern to be seen
A team of isolation
And it looks like we're the queens
The wind is howling like this swirling storm inside
Couldn't keep it in, heaven knows I've tried
Don't let SOS in, don't let him see
Be the good Reid you always have to be
Conceal, don't feel, don't let them know
Well, now they know

Let it go, let it go
Can't hold it back anymore
Let it go, let it go
Turn away and slam the door
I don't care what they're going to say
Let the storm rage on
The draft picks never bothered me anyway

What is people's obsession with Scrimshaw?
****ed if I know. Complete mystery. Also surprised the amount seem to rate Brodie like another sure thing as a player. These guys still big question marks in my mind. If Gold Coast want pick 1 and 2019 first rounder those guys with it, not exciting me to let Walsh go. Pretty sure SOS would knock that shit back too. Rather a pick around 20 to give straight to GWS for Setterfield go with it.

I think you answered your own question/statement. Other alternative is to keep 2019 1st.

Coniglio is a FA though..

Out of contract 2019:
Caleb Marchbank, Harry McKay Jack Silvagni, Matthew Kreuzer (Carlton), Ben Reid, Daniel Wells (Collingwood), Darcy Parish, Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti (Essendon), Gary Ablett, Tim Kelly, Harry Taylor (unrestricted free agent), Steven May (restricted free agent) (Gold Coast), Stephen Coniglio (restricted free agent), Josh Kelly (GWS), Jaeger O'Meara, Ben McEvoy (Hawthorn), Jesse Hogan, Sam Weideman (Melbourne), Travis Boak (unrestricted free agent), Robbie Gray (unrestricted free agent) (Port Adelaide), Kane Lambert, Nick Vlastuin (Richmond), Jake Carlisle (St Kilda), Zak Jones (Sydney), Josh Kennedy (restricted free agent) (West Coast Eagles), Josh Schache, Lachie Hunter, Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs).

Out of contract 2020:
Eddie Betts (Adelaide), Alex Witherden, Eric Hipwood (Brisbane), Sam Docherty (Carlton), Brodie Grundy (restricted free agent), Brayden Maynard, Jordan de Goey, Scott Pendlebury (unrestricted free agent), Mason Cox (Collingwood), Dyson Heppell (Essendon), Mitch Duncan (unrestricted free agent) (Geelong), Ben Ainsworth, Jack Bowes (Gold Coast), Jeremy Cameron (restricted free agent), Lachie Whitfield (restricted free agent), Jonathon Patton (restricted free agent) (GWS), James Sicily, Isaac Smith (unrestricted free agent) (Hawthorn), Jack Viney (restricted free agent) (Melbourne), Ben Brown, Shaun Higgins (North Melbourne), Jack Graham, Toby Nankervis (Richmond), Patrick McCartin (St Kilda), Jack Darling (restricted free agent) (West Coast), Aaron Naughton (Western Bulldogs).

If we did trade 1 for 2 and 3, I'd keep 2 and go hard at a player with 3. Port/Adelaide would froth over 3.
Or traded picks 1, 43 and future first rounder to GC for Martin, 2 and 3

We ontrade pick 2 to Cows for Crouch, and pick 13 that we gave them...."give it back to us, ya bumholes!!!" :D They get Lukosius

Pick 13 goes to GWS for Setterfield and future 2nd rounder

We'd end up with Rankine/Smith at pick 3, Martin, Crouch, Setterfield, and future second rounder

I'd do it....win, win, win all around....i think

I didn't pose a question.

There's plenty of room to open up something further for a Setterfield trade, so we shouldn't be sitting on our hands.

You won't be. That type of deal would be GWS writing off season 2019 as a premiership contender. They don't just exist to do trade deals. Winning premiership is the goal. Not getting a pick 1 before FA kicks in.
