I didn't pose a question.

There's plenty of room to open something up something further for a Setterfield trade, we shouldn't be sitting on our hands.
That wasn’t my point. I was saying if SOS had a selection of 2018 1st rounders at his disposal GWS might demand more for Setterfield.

Edit: that’s why I included /statement

Or traded picks 1, 43 and future first rounder to GC for Martin, 2 and 3

We ontrade pick 2 to Cows for Crouch, and pick 13 that we gave them...."give it back to us, ya bumholes!!!" :D They get Lukosius

Pick 13 goes to GWS for Setterfield and future 2nd rounder

We'd end up with Rankine/Smith at pick 3, Martin, Crouch, Setterfield, and future second rounder

I'd do it....win, win, win all around....i think

Nah. Recruiting kids after kids after kids is not the answer.

We can get much more creative.

While I don't disagree, and I'm sure SOS has all manner of ideas and is throwing all of his creative spark at this... none of that changes the fact that the alternative to drafting youngsters is to target those already in the system at other clubs - and there's no escaping that they need to want to join us.

For every McGovern and Setterfield, Silvagni may have put the feelers out with countless others and just hasn't been able to shake them loose.

A lot of the potential trade scenarios thrown up here seem to bandy prospective names around like they'd he honoured just to play for our jumper - but we'd be a long way down the pecking order for most at the moment.

Therein lies the rub with 'equalisation' in the modern game: can't win games without a well-balanced list of experience and talent, and can't get a well-balanced list of experience and talent without winning games.

The only time we cellar dwellers are on an even keel, or even have an advantage, is on draft day... hence more kids after kids after kids.

I have a feeling that a lot of these supposed 23-27 year-old targets have already found other homes, or are staying put. The plan is good in theory, but there's no sense in pursuing it in the trade window for the sake of it. If all that is left is another batch of VFL types like those we just delisted after a single season, then you don't trade for those.

I still think Daniel Menzel would strengthen our forward half. Still available as an unrestricted free agent. The knock is injury history and perceived lazy streak however he knows how to kick goals.

I’m keen on strengthening our forward half. With the additions of McGovern and Fasolo I jotted down a likely forward line. I still think there’s room for a classy goalsneak that we don’t appear to have on our list.

Fagan on SEN sounded genuinely hurt about the Beams news.

To me it sounds like the Pies may be exploiting a person in a vulnerable state.

Yep QLD is a very vulnerable state ... ;)

1 or 2 x classy small forwards would be great but IMO Menzel isn't the answer. Poor defensively and major knee issues. I'm sure we can find others. I reckon we need some lively quick small players who can apply pressure

Like Pickett and Lebois?

If I read between the lines it seems that all the following could be true:
Both Blues and GCS are keen on Walsh
GCS see Lukosius and Rankine as flight risks and prefer others
Crows more keen on Lukosius and Power more keen on Rankine
Saints and Crows are likely to do a Pick 4 for 8 & 13 deal
Crows may believe that Lukosius can get to them at 4
Power may believe that Rankine gets to them at 6
Power may believe that Rozee gets to them at 10
What will shake this up is if GCS can get Crows and Power to one up each other - and if GCS aren’t picking the SA boys anyway they can afford to
Blues probably won’t get involved unless SOS is keen on others eg the old rumour about King twins

I get the feeling all this pick 1 talk is just SOS creating noise and testing the market.

We're pretty much done except for setterfield, both parties know what it will take to complete that trade.

Walsh is too good to let go, everyone is aware of that.
SOS even said it himself. Unlikely, but never say never. Can't wait to see what the SA clubs offer up next week.

I vote we rock up to AFL house and demand a shortening of Trade 'Week' to an actual five day work week, free agency included. The wait is too much.

A prominent poster on draft boards told me SOS is keen on Bailey Smith and Ben King. He works at Sandy Dragons so I don't think he's making it up.

Would not be against trading down for this if true. Would probably prefer to trade the King pick out for a mature gun though. Lachie Neale would be ideal.

No to Menz

Yes to Lonie for a late pick tho...

If we got either it is virtually de-listed free agency territory and not part of this trade period...

SOS is not bothering with that small fry stuff this week to bring in.
Hopefully he is working out how to trade Liam Jones to add some currency for other stuff in this trade period. A future late round 2 pick would be perfect right now...
If anyone nibbles for Casboult can have him for future draft pick of round 4 variety.
