I reckon Geelong were on performance enhancing gear back when they were winning flags. Their players were abnormally big yet could run all day. And is it just a coincidence that Dank, Dean Robinson and Bomber Thompson were all associated with their club throughout their golden era? The only difference between Geelong and Essendon is that Essendon got caught.

I think most people assume that to be the case.

It all ties in with my theory of the AFL telling clubs to keep wingers out of the square when the ball is bounced.

They are trying to manufacture a desired outcome and look of the game at all costs.

I think they want the game to look a certain way early on to get everyone onside with the rule.

They probably figure by round 1 supporters will be more interested in 4 points than the rules so it wont be as prominent

Why did they implement the new rule, have the AFL had criticism with people wanting more one-on-one battles or less "scrums"?

Seems lame, I presume it's only in the AFL and not lower leagues.
