This was going on last year when he started in the VFL as a mid though. We had more than a few midfield minutes up for grabs with our injury list.

My recollection is that he did get some midfield minutes at times in 2018, without impressing greatly. This year we are looking overstocked with developing mids.

And we have the 23 year old clear best midfielder from the VFL 2018 hoping to get a start in the forward pocket.

As a guy who has at times done a merely good job in the VFL midfield at times, Silvagni is WAY back in the queue to deserve a run in the seniors midfield.

As a Richmond supporter i would rather see McGovern in the Carlton lineup than Casboult due to our ability to matchup better on McGovern than McKay,Casboult,Curnow foward set up.

Casboult would cause Richmond a bigger headache than McGovern imo

Ruckman Matthew Kreuzer is set to be left out of Carlton’s team for the season opening clash against Richmond, with as many as six players potentially running out in the navy blue for the first time.

Carlton have nothing to lose in this game. Really no one expects us to win, and all the pressure will be on Richmond.

I think the Crippa ,murph and the young midfield brigade can more than break even n the midfield. If they can add relentless run and relentless tackling pressure that gives our inexperienced defenders half a chance to win some contests. The forwards must pressure their backs coming out of our F50. We perform well in these areas and the rest takes care of itself.
Don’t want to see their backs walk it out too easily like first half in yesterday’s JLT.

Agree McGovern to defence develop endurance, with Cripps, Murphy, Dow, Fisher , SPS and Walsh sweeping out of a decongested midfield it could be interesting.
Tigers backline would be busy checking Curnow, Mackay, Casboult , Fasolo, Cuningham and Garlett.
As long as Levi doesn’t knock out his own, he could be a weapon has great hands can take some beauties.

the major difference i'm hoping this year is that at least we'll have ground ball players in fasolo, cuningham and gibbons who can crumb the forward 50 contests created by those 3 talls. defenders will by drawn to the big 3 so there should be plenty of opportunities to score at ground level. last year there wasn't really anyone that could do that.

we were pretty good at centre clearances last year so the 666 rule should help us further.

kicking long to talls and hoping for a contest isn't that scientific but it's playing to our strengths and I don't think there's any shame in that given where we're at in our development.

Cant see The tigers backs matching with our 3 forwards in Curnow and the two Mc's.
don't for one minute think that these 3 have no synergy in the forward line. it will be evident in the 1st quarter against the rig's.
the non believers need to give our forwards coach a bit more respect..
