When you go deep and review our list I reckon we may not recruit one young talented player at years end. Especially if we bring in another young player like Dunkley next week.

I believe we will use our 1st & 3rd round picks to trade in mature players and we could easily use future picks as well.

The three picks in the draft could be used to upgrade Gibbons and/or Goddard plus bring in 1 or 2 talented mature players from the state leagues especially a developing Ruckman.

I would say that also Soapy just from reading between the lines. Stocker is the proof of it for me. Couple of young rookies maybe.

Just a quick observation on perception and expectation.

Most people were raving about what a great player Fisher was going to be and what a great season he was having in 2018 (his second year) while there is constant chatter about Dow needing a spell in the 2's and even that perhaps we made the wrong choice.

I just compared Dow's current year stats to Fishers 2018 stats on footywire and the results show they are very similar in every area with Fisher in front in some and Dow in front in others.

Funny how being pick 27 rather than pick 3 changes things.

I think the quality of disposal by foot might be the reason for frustration

Perhaps if Dow had nailed half of those inside 50 and or shots on goal it would be viewed differently

Yet they are very similar in kick (9.0 to 10.0), effective disposals (11.1 to 12.7) DE (63.8% to 66.1%), goals scored (0.3 to 0.5) goal assists (0.3 to 0.5) and score involvements (4.8 to 3.7). Dow is averaging a lot more behinds (0.8 to 0.3) which again comes down to perception, Dow is getting a lot more shots on goal than Fisher did but he is being judged because he missed them as opposed to never having them.

I would be all for this!

Um disposal efficiency is different to kicking efficiency

Um, yes but given they average roughly the same number of disposals, roughly the same number of kicks and roughly the same DE unless you think Fisher botched most of his handballs while Dow nailed everyone of his their kicking efficiency would be similar as well.

Thought it became interesting the further we got behind Macca. Little bit of the right stuff about him. Anyone can look good when the team is flying.
Cheers, hopefully he gets a runs this week in his more natural position (with Plowman & Simpson coming back) and we can get a look at what he is really capable of.

Or perhaps a player's output can assessed beyond the average of high level stats.

Without going into detail, 7 of Fisher's first 9 games last year were rated better than Dow's second best this year.

I certainly hope your rating isn't coming from Champion data.

But of course you need to look beyond stats but people opinions have them poles apart while the stats are incredibly close - it is hard to argue perception isn't playing a part.

When you read that we have around 34 players 23 or under with most less than 50 games it's what we have to do.

We could easily lose most or all of Thomas Simpson Murphy at years end and Ed & Kruezer are past their bests

We have the young talent. More than enough and I rate it extremely highly. Now we need to help it with bigger bodies, mature quality and leaders.

I realise we will bring in another youngster next week but it would be really tempting to bring in a Barlow type.

I think we will have lots of depth. It’s just young and inexperienced and needs some help for a year or so

Cripps Kennedy Dow SPS Walsh Stocker Cuningham Fisher O’Brien Lang Pickett Setterfield Gibbons Polson is as talented and potentially deep as any. I think most will get to between very good to elite status.

Add a Dunkley Cunningham Jong as examples and hopefully a real top end player like Coniglio it would be incredible [emoji106]
Dream scenario. Can only wish we get a little luck and can convince a Cognilio to come via free agency.

Exactly the
Rumours are we will pick Kyle Dunkley in mid season draft. (Here's a review I found)

19 years old
185cm
Midfielder

STRENGTHS: Tackling, contested ball, endurance, agility
IMPROVEMENTS: Accumulation, consistency

SUMMARY: The second of the Dunkley brothers to come through as a Sydney father-son prospect, Kyle Dunkley is a medium-sized midfielder/forward who has had limited exposure this year. While injury hampered the early part of his year, Dunkley struggled to break back into the Oakleigh line-up come finals time, finishing with just four TAC Cup games and one NEAFL appearance for the year. Despite the small amount of game time, Dunkley was still able to show where his strengths lie when given the chance, with a good showing at the Victorian State Combine also doing his chances no harm. Dunkley has an impressive work rate, with a willingness to lay hard tackles and win his own ball in the clinches. His mix of endurance and athleticism bodes well for that side of his game, as he is able to both effect and zip through multiple contests. A knock on him though may be his overall ability to accumulate and have a consistent effect throughout the game, which is a key area to improve on should he attract more midfield minutes. The Swans are best placed to pick Dunkley up should they value him worth the chance, and he has plenty of room to grow if that is the case.

The potential of our midfield would be amazing
Exactly the Player we need. He's a footballer. Tough and has proven he can accumulate. Will be a great addition.

Jarrod Pickett on radio interview
had his first run today after 5 months
he has some weight gain however seems intent on his role at CFC....
The injury was stated as being not that severe, however rehab time is very slow...
Pickett is the missing piece of our forward jigsaw. Imagine a fit forward line of Harry, McGovern, Charlie, Pickett, Cunners and maybe a Lang. Really hope Picket has the desire.

Who out of last year's draft are going well or better than Dow right now? Cerra, Brayshaw, Uniacke and Raynor are all struggling. (Raynor had three possessions last week in a winning team) Keep in mind Dow had a interrupted preseason and it's being asked to play a lot of midfield minutes. I'm not concerned at all about Dow.

?

The article states accumulating the footy as a weakness.
Also doesn't mention anything about disposal skill level, and i think you might find it's not a strength.
