Not a fan of Marchbank either. Think SOS has erred badly with these two.
I’m still a fan of both but just see them as more of role players now rather than players that will move us up the ladder, which is a shame because they are in the age group (5th and 7th season) that we have all been talking about us needing more of to start improving.
Marchbank is frustrating because he looks like the guy we need intercepting and rebounding but he just seems poor with ball in hand which hurts the side. He also really needs to get stronger which hopefully his body will allow.

Far too soon to be using the F word. Fail will be in two years if we arent knocking on the 8. I feel we will be in it never mind knocking.
So many if and buts to what we may be in 2 years tbh .
The biggest challenge going forward won't be keeping the talent improving or even bringing players in to
help the improvement .
It will be if this group keeps losing games this year at the rate we are and say we have a bad start to next year say go 0-4 as has been the case of recent years the biggest problem will be the headspace keeping the players totally buying into the plan fully invested in what they are doing if the losing continues .
Imo we are starting to get into critical stage of this rebuild if the wins don't start coming soon or atleast a trickle of wins .

The same people that get stuck into Casboult then go all quiet when he does alright.
Its like target shooting. We got to knock that thing out of the sky just because its there.
I personally bagged him quite a bit, but so long as he goes nowhere near the forward line again he is welcome to stay as long as he likes.
Tries his arse off and is a great blues man so happy to keep my big mouth shut whilst he is playing well in defence.

Really enjoyed watching Casboult of late doing a terrific job in defence in the absence of Jones .
Has had a 3 goal game this year and a couple of other ok games forward and been quite serviceable in the ruck .
Certainly proving to be quite a valuable player on the list this year .

did I hear some one say KFC

North were flying in 2016 early and were flag favourites after 12 rounds. then injuries hit. So scott is certainly capable of getting clubs performing.

Flag favorites? lol. They were decent but the last time they were flag favorites Wayne Carey was playing center half forward.

They built a good but old team that fell flat on it's face.

I think he'd make a decent coach, I think his brother is only an average coach.

What is important about coaching at AFL is not so much whether you can coach or not but where you go. Pick your club. You could be Chris Scott and coach Geelong and have a flag and be top of the ladder or be Brad Scott and have a few finals appearances years ago but find yourself down the bottom of the ladder.

A lot of the best coaches in the league have chosen wisely and timed it right (Ross Lyon) or have got lucky and landed at a club who has it right in regards to recruiting and list management etc (Chris Scott, Clarkson) or they landed at a club willing to wait and willing to do what has to be done and knows what they are doing (Buckley, Hardwick). Unfortunately Choosing Carlton the last 20 years has been a bad choice. Let's hope we can change this.

I would not be against Scott joining our football department, I'm sure he's quality, like most coaches who have failed he's just under-resourced. Only difference between he and his brother is his brother succeeded in bringing in good mature players and he didn't. One club took the next step, one failed. Probably not his fault. Most coaches could coach a team to a flag if they had the players and the luck if not all of them.

Somewhere in between maybe. What I wish for is to feel some belief replacing hope. Just that.

Midfielders are so important these days. Back in 2015 when SOS went all in on talls, I was nervous that we were leaving ourselves short on midfielders. Right now my fears have been vindicated. it is showing that no matter how good your talls are, if they are not being backed up by a competant midfield, they can be made to look silly and second rate. it happened last year with our defenders and this year with our forwards.
we simply have to get some consistency and hardness into our forward line. Get 1 free agent (Coniglio) and 1 with picks (cunnington) and let the dominos fall like inGB's second paragraph-

Footy has always relied on the midfield. Keep it out of the backline, get it into the forward line. When it goes into the backline it's under no time, under pressure, it's a bomb. When it goes forward we have time, we carry it we hit our targets and let our forwards work their defenders over on the lead.

Rebuilding without taking in any quality mature players means years and years of pain. Takes 3-5 years for a player to develop physically to play AFL at a good level and it takes 5 years minimum to draft enough good players in. It's take us 4 years to get to a point where we can recruit mature players who fit our age demographic.

Our talls are fine. Until our midfield can physically compete to a level where we can setup quality forward plays and deliver they are useless. Our backine is ok. Talls are decent. If we apply enough pressure then the talls can finish the good work off but our tackling is poor because we aren't strong so it goes in there a bit too much.

We have talent in our team. When we become a team that is hard to tackle, physically imposing and can really hit in we will be a good team but this is going to take time.

I'd love to see how McKay, Silvagni, Cuningham, Curnow, McGovern would go with a midfield that could bust tackles, give it off to players waiting and expecting this and get some forward run and momentum.

Our problem over the board is players expecting tackles to fail, expecting players to fail to be able to win a ball and get a handball away and players expecting the ball to be thrown on the boot and kicked forward. When we start getting hands on the contest ball, getting handballs out getting it to runners who can look up and kick forward. When we can kick long to a contest and win it and get it forward. When our forwards start expecting this we'll be in the right track but we need the tough, hard mature players. Right now we don't.

His biggest weakness gets covered in the backline. Same as with Rowe. Forwards need to be able to win the ball at ground level

Casboult has been training for defence for years, he is now very comfortable with the ball being kicked to his opponents advantage.

Looks a natural now he is not expected to lead at the ball carrier and then change direction to whatever random spot his team mate kicks it to.

I have never thought that Brendan Bolton not playing AFL was an issue and I still don’t, but having a look at our coaching staff as a whole and I see a glaring problem.

Without going through all their careers specifically so anyone, correct me if I’m wrong.

No AFL premierships
No All Australians
No Brownlow medalists
No former AFL coaches (Walls isn’t part of the coaching staff)
1 BandF winner in David Teague (at our clubs lowestpoint)

Do people not see this as an issue?

I would have thought his biggest weakness is his kicking...however his field kicking has generally been very good...not sure why he can't translate this when he is in front of the big sticks ;P
Solve that problem and you will be very, very well paid by all AFL clubs
