Reading through the info below, hawthorn are in a world of hurt. Not only are they unable to score enough to win games - they haven’t kicked 100 points in a game all season, but when you look at their side on the weekend, it’s a mixture of old men who are absolutely finished, Untried youth who have shown very little promise in multiple seasons, a couple of very good players in their mid 20’s and some u tried Irishmen. They’ve got Mitchell to come back, and he’ll be a great addition, but they’ve sold themselves out of multiple drafts for omeara - who’s knees are shot - and Wingard - who’s at this stage a complete bust. Impey is twice the player Wingard is and has cost them a fraction of the price. They’re 4
Years of drafting/development away from getting decent players into the club, and that’s assuming they nail a couple of drafts. What we are seeing on the ladder now is a sign of what’s to come for multiple seasons for the hawks.

B: Obrien, Frawley, Burgoyne
HB: Nash, Sicily, Hardwick
C: Scully, Howe, Henderson
Hf: Breust, Gunston, Puopolo
Ff: Hanrahan, mcevoy, impey
R: Ceglar, omeara, worpel
IB: Shiel, smith, Moore, glass

Obrien - 7th year on the list for a total of 55 games. 25 years old. He’s the definition of the term most clogger

Frawley - about to turn 31 and an average full back at best.

Burgoyne - about to turn 37

Nash - Irishman with 11 games under his belt. Speculative pick at best.

Sicily - 24 years old, talent to burn, but forced to play as a key defender at 186cm which will burn him out. Also a worry that at 24, his discipline is still such an issue.

Hardwick - 22 year old 181cm player who’s shown enough to suggest he’s a solid player

Scully - 28 and a shadow of the player he was. List clogger unless he can somehow get his ankles right. But even if he does he’s 29 next year, and this seasons already a write off. What’s the purpose of an average 29 year old half back for 2 years when you’re not contending?

Howe - another mid sized player who’s been on the list 5 years for 55 games. On the precipice of list clogging status.

Henderson - about to turn 31, never been anything more than a foot solider.

Breust - about to turn 29, but frighteningly, has looked slow of late. Getting tackled inside 50 and turning the ball over. A shadow of the player he was, and not having premiership quality teammates around him has exposed him as being a good solid player as opposed to being a genuine star.

Puopolo - about to turn 32, and is finished. Slow, washed up and cooked. What’s frightening is that he’s clearly done, but there’s no one at box hill they deem good enough to push him out of the side.

Hanrahan - 19 years old and has played 1 game.

McEvoy - 30 years old in a week. Still playing good footy, but not the Brodie Grundy style match winner they probably hoped he was a couple of years ago.

Impey - about to turn 24 and a very good player. Good recruit.

Ceglar - 29 before next season starts. Not a star - a good honest battler.

Omeara - 26 before next season starts, but has the knees of a 35 year old. And that’s not a troll, he genuinely has knees that are cooked and need to be managed. And that’s evident in his patchy form. He’s very good some weeks and horrible others.

Worpel - big wraps on him from hawks fans, but still only 25 games into his career. Good signs early though.

Smith - about to turn 31. He’s done. Certainly won’t be there when they’re ready to Contend again. He’s holding someone else’s spot and chance to develop.

Shiels - 29 before next year begins. See notes on smith.

Moore - undersized almost 20 Year old who’s managed 7 games in 2 years.

Glass - Irishman who’s played 13 games.

Wouldn't be a week on the Bay if we didn't have our regular quota of half a dozen Hawthorn threads created by Geelong posters.

Two games & percentage clear on top yet still completely obsessed with us.

I would think most clubs would accept a rebuild being required after a 3peat, the Cats and Collingwood have only won that many flags in the last 60 years.

More concerning for the Hawks is the massive drop off in their fair weather supporters and the rumblings of a crackdown on gambling for a club that gets most of its revenue from pokies.

No one questions the rebuild cycle. My question is around the fact they’ve traded away draft picks. Kept washed up old players too long, drafted potatoes with the picks they had left. Out of the players on the current list, who will play in their next premiership team?

Yes but they were able to.win flags and stay in the top 4 up until this year so their strategy worked better than most, this year they will have some big decisions to make.

This is the bay. Comments like this are not allowed

"Impey - about to turn 24 and a very good player. Good recruit."

Let me help you out. Should be more along the lines of

Impey - Extremely lucky pickup by the worst coach of all time angry midget who only won a three peat due to a compromised draft and playing interstate opponents.

It is the bay. But I’m being serious. Impey is a great player. Mcevoys very good. Worpel looks good. But after that the pickings seem slim.

It’s simple, the plan for 2019 has not worked.

Our coaching staff will have to work hard to figure out what to do with what we have. Who knows, maybe we’ll get lucky and wind up recruiting the best free-agent in the league and snag a mature-ager. With the league being as shithouse as it is right now, it’s probably enough see us two games on top this time next year.

While I applaud a glass half full attitude, the best free agent in the League is not going to consider Hawthorn any more than they'll look at Carlton or St Kilda. Unless paid ridiculously massive overs in the list destroying bracket, and probably still not then. Snagging a marquis free agent on big bucks is about the worst thing Hawthorn could do.

And even if. There's half a dozen regular players who are going to progress from cooked to charred and blackened. Or retire. And another group who are ready to step up and fill the vacant places in the merely cooked category.

Clarko came out this week and stated that the Hawks were not far off the pace and there was no reason to not be a genuine contender in 2020. He's either taking the piss, or he's completely lost contact with reality.

Simple answer is such an article wouldn't sell enough papers. Bandwagoners have already jumped ship.

Gerard is even going to let Slobbo talk up the Bomber's this week on AFL 360, because even they are more relevant than the Hawks these days.

Nothing screams 'irrelevant' louder than when threads are constantly posted about a club whose season has been in the bin for months.

Deflect as much as you want. The question remains, why keep so many old players who are cooked? Why trade aWay your drafts for spuds like Wingard? How do you recover quickly? Who will play in hawthorns next flag from your current list??

Funny you say that, cause weve won 3 times more than you in the second half of those 60 years.

I didn’t think you’d respond to these serious questions Bayer_ you limp wristed minnow.

When is their Craptain back? They'll be back in the news then.

Nice one deary, now put your dick away its not impressing anyone, the threads about Hawthorn who have won more flags in 8 years than your club in 60 yet still manage to look like a minnow.
