So we need to follow some kind of process to appoint the panel who will coordinate the process of selecting a new coach?

Which process do we follow to determine which process by which we select the people who will select the panel who will select the coach? I don't know why she swallowed a fly.
So how does the panel evolve, ?

Mates out to lunch ?

For me the most important part of appointing a coach is that it is someone that gets them to win and keep winning regularly for years on end.
All the perfect fit stuff is fine but we already had the perfect fit and kept losing.
I don't care if all the players and staff hate the coaches guts if it gets us some flags.
Well clearly Bolts wasn’t the perfect fit for where we are at, we’re at a different stage now, he was great at nurturing and development

With what ?
Where we a professionally run footy club ?
Well resourced ?
Good recruiting ?
Good fitness staff leading to few injuries ?
All things than can impact a team and coach .
BTW who were the 2 best players in the game Judd + ?
Fevola.
The team was good enough, the coach wasn't... and some success is what fixes all the rest.
That is my opinion. Anyone else can think what they like....... ;)

Yes but the mantra was that Bolts was it.....so therefore the general consensus was incorrect and therefore perfect fit means nothing when it comes to 22 blokes and a football.

Optics matter.

So for someone in Judd's position to come out and say what he did how he did about the interim coach isn't great optics.

If it was nothing the club wouldn't have come out with another person in power to counter Judd's statement.

Judd didn't make the training wheels comment in reference to Teague.

Not sure why people find this so hard to grasp.

"What are you looking for in a coach?" - Experience, no training wheels.
"Does Teague have training wheels?" - He's getting some experience, but not to the same level as a senior coach.

The training wheels terminology has, in all likelihood, been used internally at the club. Judd was just the one who used it externally. He was then asked a direct question about whether that description applied to Teague, and he attempted to provide more than a "no comment" by saying that Teague was getting valuable experience, but there were aspects of the job he hasn't been exposed to - a here-nor-there comment that leaves the door open for any possibility.

Fair enough agree to disagree as the team was hamstrung as was the coach due to a club not being in a professional state at the time .
Its only now with the appointment of Russell that I believe the CFC has finally caught up to its competitors in preparing the players to be the best they can be on field . Fevola was gone end of 09 not even half way through Rattens tenure .

Don't mind me. I am grumpy cos I havent had no breakfast yet..........

I find it rather amusing to read so many personal insults directed at people ( like me) who have a view that suggests that Judd's comments were so out of line and so dismissive of Teague that they were disgraceful. Worse is the cosying up to Mr messiah Roos ( the next messiah) - and THAT is the context of my misgivings - another 'messiah' - this time sanctioned by the AFL/Fox Club.

So the narrative is : Bolton was a coach on 'training wheels' - we don't want another one like that.

The truth is that SOS and Bolton have done the hard yards alongside supporters and members and players and the whole Club is primed for a rapid climb up the ladder sooner rather than later.

In my 'perfect' world Carlton doesn't doff its cap to the current in favour formula shoved down the throat of the Club - bringing in an outsider to lead the way - because Carlton is 'hopeless'.

Keep winning Teague.

oh and just for the record I don't support any player or ex player - I support Carlton. Couldn't care less about media 'performances' - winning games on field is what I care about the media narrative follows doesn't lead.

Had too large an input into list management in his previous gig and recommended the elevation of Shane Rogers to head recruiter, who basically mangled the list in 3 years. Good luck to Ratts with the Saints, don't want him back at Carlton.

So you're going to completely write off a bloke for mistakes made a decade ago, many of which were due to a failure of structures at the Club, who has since spent 6 years as a senior assistant under the best coach in the game, winning 3 Premierships?

Geeez

So how does the panel evolve, ?

Mates out to lunch ?

Let me think...

President
CEO
GM of Football
Director of Football
Board member who works for massive recruitment firm.

It looks a whole lot like the most senior figures at the club, those responsible for the operation of the football department, and a resident recruitment expert.

Should we be hosting a talent show in the cafe to see if anyone further down the chain has an aptitude for selection coaches?

Trying really hard not to be a jerk here, and probably failing miserably (for which I apologise) - I just cannot wrap my head around a suggestion that somehow this selection panel isn't made up of relevant people.

I also think the process in appointing the panel was poor, was there a process ? Also, with the clubs history of coaching appointments over the years, you can’t help feel they could be a bit spooked, look who knows , I’m just hopeful they can get it right and maybe be a bit bold, I’m in the Teague camp

The panel members make perfect sense.
We have a board member who is a professional recruiter, the CEO, the Head of Football, the Director of Football, and the President.

Who else would you expect to be part of the process?

I'm not writing Ratten off, I just don't want him back as coach of Carlton. Too many decisions made by him which affected the club years after his departure. I think he probably is primed for a second crack somewhere else though.

I’m not advocating for Ratten - but we also “been there and did that” with David Parkin, then we “went there and did that again” with David Parkin.

Yes, as already stated Parkin had already been to the mountain top - Ratten was only assistant to someone who did.

Andy Maher is cringeworthy I find. He takes the the art of waffle to a new low.
And in his attempts to try and come across as unbiased he puts the boots into his own club all the time. Not good.

Andy Maher’s efforts during the Essendon Illegal Performance Enhancing Drug Scandal where he allowed Tim Watson to act as a PR mouthpiece for Essendon on the SEN Breakfast program was pathetic.

Things change though, right?
I think Bolton was a really good appointment. He did so much right, especially in the first 2 years. Think about the position of the Club when he took over.
Unfortunately, things started to go off the rails, and for whatever reason he wasn't able to adjust.
That does not mean it wasn't the right appointment.

The decision on the coach will basically determine if this group wins a flag or not.

It is a seriously massive decision for the club.

I find it very difficult to see the appeal in Voss. He had a go at coaching and it was a failure. Sure he didn't have the best team and he was young and has probably learned a lot but what has he done since? Gone to Port Adelaide and they have been mediocre?

I'm glad we are being diligent and going through all our options but he doesn't stand out to me.

I would prefer someone who has been at a successful club recently and seen what it takes and how they are managed.

Voss was a very special player but as a coach, I don't know. Still glad we are willing to listen but the hype is a bit much.

Same with Roos. Been out of the game way too long and I don't think you can afford to do that anymore.

Agreed mate. I aren't suggesting Bolts was the wrong man in that moment. On the contrary.
Mostly I am just pontificating because heck I don't know anymore than anyone else around here.....I just have opinions. And those are all subject to modification as I read and absorb the to-ing and fro-ing...... :thumbsu:

If Doc isn’t on the selection panel we are dead set missing a trick. The man has been inner sanctum with our coaching and playing group for the last 2 years. Highly intelligent and respected.

If anyone can see the right fit for the club while Doc completes his playing days prior to coaching this great club it’s Doc.

Crippa and Docs buy in will have a huge impact on the group.
