In my view, if Roos is telling the club that he prefers candidate x over candidate y, then he is not the right director of coaching for us.
If he is making demands before he is even appointed, what's he going to be like once he is appointed?
I hope that we either appoint another candidate for the director's position or appoint a coach that says it's either me or Roos, eg Clarkson.
If we get dictated to by the director of coaching we will end up in a mess again.

Just on the director of coaching thing, isn't that more or less what Walls has been doing this year? It mightn't formally be "Director of Coaching" but he's basically been overseeing/supporting most of the aspects of coaching, hasn't he?

Why would we be looking to replace him with Roos? I think we're better off with Wallsy tbh.

Doesn't make him a sh*t candidate, nor is he any more suitable or qualified than Teague

No it doesnt, but what qualifications really count?

Coaching your own state league team like Bolton had?

Successful run as an interim coach, again like Bolton had?

Successful stints as an AFL assistant like Alan Richardson or Mark Neeld?

Great playing careers like Voss, Buckley or Hird?

Does our recent spike in performance automatically elevate Teague’s suitability for the role above that of all others?

This was PM'ed to me a by a poster who wishes to remain anonymous for now. As Ratten has expressed interest in the job, he/she thought it appropriate to share.

Tom Elliot and Fraser Brown are trying to overthrow the board with Judd and J.Pratt staying.
Ratten will come back as head coach if board over thrown but will not come back if Matheson is still on the board. Judd glowing endorsement of Ratten as coach. Elliot as president.
Personally, I don't like this board rubbish. Elliots yuk.

Yeah, I’m with you on this. My concern is that they go safe to cover their arses, rather than boldly and decisively shooting for the optimal appointment.

The best case scenario is that Teague takes the decision out of their hands by racking up enough wins that he can’t be ignored.
This is my fear too. Covering of own ass.

If by the end of the year they know in their guts Teague is the best fit but go for a "name coach".

If they appoint teague and it doesn't work they could fear the backlash "how could they go another inexperianced coach yada yada"

If they appoint Lyon for example and it doesn't work its easier for them to say "We needed an experienced Coach to lead us. He has runs on the board. Look at his record"

I just want them to be brave enough to go Teague if he is the best fit.

I'd imagine if he's been interview/spoken with they'd have asked his opinion so I don't think he's stepped out of line. Why is it a problem for him to say which coach is the better choice? As director of coaching isn't it kind of in the job description to say which coach is a better than the other?

No need. Off field the club is going very well and on field things have turned the corner. I see exciting times ahead and we are close. This crap is pathetic

Tom Elliot is a stooge looking to lift his media profile so he doesn't have to get a real job.

This would be an absolute disaster.

I don't see any grounds for overthrowing the board.

There was movement earlier in the year, with a view to overthrow the board, but that fizzled away as any other of these type ventures will.
These people have dug their heels in and won't be so easy to displace, as much as some want some to go.

Anything is possible, but I'd put this rumour on the highly unlikely pile and should another 2 to 3 wins front up - Good luck.

Ground-swell for Teague will be too strong to ignore after he continues to make us relevant again (including a win in one of the bigger three games we have on the run home, please be the Crows).

Calm, clear concise as a communicator, great game-day strategist with players and fans alike seeming to love him. Aware of who he is and where he wants to go without an ounce of FIGJAM, just got to keep it rolling for the rest of the year in my opinion.

I know history is littered with examples of interim coaches who bounce then fall but, IF, he can keep it going you have to give him first shot, experienced candidates are underwhelming, to say the least and I just can't seem to buy into them (Lyon, Voss and co, please line-up at Moorabbin)

“IT’S THE VIBE OF IT. IT’S THE CONSTITUTION. IT’S MABO. IT’S JUSTICE. IT’S LAW. IT’S THE VIBE AND AH, NO THAT’S IT. IT’S THE VIBE. I REST MY CASE.”

Would be fascinating to hear from these budding usurpers as to the platform from which they would challenge - and on what grounds? What do they feel are the shortcomings of the incumbents, and what would they bring to the table to address these? I suspect the answers would be flimsy at best.

Not sure now is the right time for Ratten's best mate to make a scene, nor will there ever be a good time for another Elliott within the walls of the football club.
