Daniher's response to questions around his future today were interesting. Didn't definitively state that he'd be at Essendon next year. Reminds a little of when Gibbs was being asked about his future. Doesn't mean the deal will get done of course, but if he wasn't interested, he would have categorically stated that he would be at Essendon next year.

Possibly by as soon as next season, we will start seeing mid season player/star departures from clubs to elsewhere, and I hate it.

I'm in the opposite corner. I think this has been timed to perfectiom for us just like live trading at the draft.

I think both present as legitimate buyers markets. SOS understood, better than those of us who cried at the thought of trading a top pick, the value of the Adelaide pick trade. He was proven right. We didn't trade outside of the top ten and still added Stocker.

The players available mid-year will likely be those who are chasing success or wanting to go home. We are always linked with the latter and will be primed for finals runs as soon as next season. This opens the door for SOS on both fronts. It's a huge advantage whereas the compromised drafts of a decade ago really hammered us when we were mediocre.

We're well placed now to go out and go wack.

When the contract was signed it was actually the complete opposite, the AFL stated they must include his salary in the salary cap due to concerns about him playing out the rest of the deal.
Who actually pays Buddy the money is another question but it has previously been confirmed that Sydney would maintain the hit to their cap.

Guessing that'll be when the $5m COLA will kick in

Agreed I love my Cripps but if gold coast offered pick 1 (Anderson) and pick 2 (Rowell) and Jarrod Witt's ( 3rd best ruck in the competition)
Then it would either take Cripps's mother or the most romantic blues supporter not to agree to that deal.

Glad your not in charge or recruiting as we could ask for that plus two first rounders next year and with GC current position they would still happily accept same day.
