We'd be dangling a long term deal including a staff role for sure. Transition to our back room would be very enticing. 1 year from Adelaide vs. post retirement career. He has a young family and that will be the basis of whichever he decides.
maybe already been discussed here but i just read a five day old fox article suggesting there are internal temsions at our club regarding trade targets...one of those is that teague is keen on betts but sos isnt apparently.

Sure they can ask for Pick 4 and 8 but they won’t get it. Daniher is a free agent end of next season so if no deal this year then next year Swans get him for free and * will get a first round pick as compensation (if they don’t get another free agent in). Plus * are better off using his 2020 salary elsewhere especially on an inside mid. So I think a deal gets done and it’s no where close to being the equivalent of like a pick 1 or 2 as you’re suggesting.

Yeh, I remember reading somewhere that the Swans would look to trade pick 4 and trade/exchange other (future?) picks to get Daniher....but are keen to hang onto a 1st round pick this year for the ND, which would likely be our pick 8.

Hopefully our 1st round pick may just about seal the Papley deal, possibly with exchange of junk picks.

Can confirm
How he ended up at Ess is a shame

Sorry to drag up an old post, but could you shed any light on how exactly we missed out on Saad?

He was keen as. I couldn't figure out at the time how we missed out.

SOS would be viewing the on field and salary aspect only.

Teague and co would be looking at the on and off field impact Betts returning would have.

Always going to be a difference of opinion. I actually consider it a good thing that there is a difference of opinion. It means we are considering and discussing all potential aspects in depth before throwing a cheque at someone.

We already have the picks.

Pick 8 will be involved somehow then a future second more than likely

Future second rounder is likely to be pick 30-40 factoring in father/sons, academies, and our on field improvement. Also already being rumoured to be an exceptionally weak draft. Cant see that getting it done.

Getting bloody excited for this trade period.

Sounds like we are seriously going to address our small forward needs.

Gone will be the days of expecting Gibbons, De Luca, Polson etc try to play that role.

Papley- A grade small forward who can play mid field minutes.

Betts - probably the GOAT small forward. Give us a dozen good games this year would be aweome.

Butler- Think he still has heaps of upside. Betts will only give us 1 or 2 years so good to have a replacement good to go.

Martin- High half forward/ wing. Who can push forward and kick goals.

With Cuners back on the park too next year, we are finally going to look dangerous going forward.

Another preseason into our young mids. And a full pre season drilling Teagues game plan. Already we have seen under Teague we spend so much more time in our forward half.

With dangerous small forwards who can apply pressure I think we will see our avearge score go through the roof next year.

Exciting times ahead.

So how do we land Papley AND Martin? Where/how do we get the picks? I want both, not interested in choosing. What are some realistic scenarios?
The simplest scenario I see would be to trade Papley and their second for our pick 8 and our 2020 second(pretty sure they can do that and trade for JD). Gives a solid pick this year for rebuilding Suns, and the high pick the Swans would need to facilitate Daniher. May be a bit of pick swapping later to appease someone, but seems the most feasible to me.

I like this. This one makes sense. Cheers for that, I was getting worried. Couldnt see how we'd get it done without either an early 2019 second rounder or an extra 2020 first rounder.

I don't think so, as it's actually devaluing our offer to Sydney.
Long way out, but if all falls into place our #8 should get the job done for Papley.....but Sydney could still dig their heels in.
Only a few weeks back we would have thought we'd be getting something back should have we had a pick as low as the #8 we have.....but unlikely now.

I can see the currency we hold being able to be manipulated in order to attain Papley, Martin & Butler but anything beyond that will need a player or a swap of 2020 1st for a team that ranks itself next year whilst not ranking us.....and for them not to be particularly keen on this years draft.

Given we're still sounding out other high-profile players, we must have a player/s in mind to trade should the net gain be worthwhile.

placate me re TDK...……..at once...……...

He's tall.
He can jump.
Can take a speccy.
Wears a headband.
Athletic.
Is aggressive/competitive.
Quite useful up forward
No idea if he can actually ruck...

Placated?

Very strong chance we will be trading both our 2019 and 2020 first round picks this trade period. We'll be able to wrangle a second back in one of those deals.

Butler a Premiership player in 2017, named in the AFL 22under22 team in 2018....starved of opportunities in 2019.

Definitely worth a chance.

In most cases players that are let go for lowish picks are no good.

The ones that work out at their new club are generally the ones that are young and stuck behind a logjam of similar players at a top team.

If ever there was a team with 'too much of a good thing' it's the Tigers and small forwards...

are there any clubs likely to take eddy on his current $600k salary? if there is this will obviously suit crows. if there isnt and we are the only club showing interest then they may need to negotiate a deal where they pay part of his 2020 salary. it will still be a win win for us and them.
Me thinks many are missing the point. The $600k is part of a contract, however structured betwen Mr Betts & the coach-less Crows.

If Eddie agrees to walk away from the Crows contract (and that $600k), he simply agrees new terms - and pay - with us.

Hmmm. A good counterpoint. I'd be ok with missing out on Butler if it means we get Papley and Martin. If your valuation of Papley + Sydney's 2019 second for Pick 8 + 2020 second rounder is closest to the pin, then we may have to add a sweetener or potentially trade with another club.

Papley I feel is the easiest trade on paper. Pick 8 is fairly straightforward. Martin presents as a bit problematic. Pick 8 is too high, and pick 39 this year is too low and we have nothing in between. Future second is unlikely for reasons previously stated. Future first perhaps? That seems too unsavoury for SOS to swallow. Getting pick 21 from the Crows would be bang on the money but that'll cost a player. With Sauce supposedly out the door could Phillips be involved? Unlikely as they have a decent ruck stashed in their cupboards.

Ive no doubt SOS and the team are across everything and are a high chance when/if they nominate us. Im just trying to peak behind the curtain to see how SOS pulls the rabbit out of the hat.
