We don’t need a defender, swans need a forward. It’s not about who the better player is, it’s about acquiring the necessary players...and Casboult would be valuable in that regard to them. I think a lot of people are underselling how well Casboult performed this year and his influence on games. He was a barometer at times.
OK. That means nothing. He's not going to Sydney with pick 41 for Casboult. You brought up the comparison to aliir. You can't backtrack now and pretend I'm bringing something irrelevant into the frame. Casboult may be part of a deal, depending on his contract. He's not worth much of anything.

I’ll repeat what isaid a few pages back.
If Grundy was in play I’d do;
Pk 9 and next yrs 1st = Grundy
Next yrs 2nd for Martin
Fisher and Dow = Papley

Without hesitation!
Because you are so persistent, I’ll reply. Collingwood would laugh at SOS if that is what we offered for Grundy. Two first round picks is the starting point for the best ruckman the competition has had in a decade.

Next years second would hopefully satisfy GC but your last trade offer is as bad as I’ve ever seen on this board. There’s no reason Fisher or Dow won’t become as good as Papley over the next few years as they’re both a few years younger than him. Papley was in and out of the side when he was Fishers age.

Papley's contract isn't as long as some in the media are reporting. From Talking Carlton - OR. Someone else mentions that apparently on AFL.com.au it states contract ends 2020.

Is Grundy not a ufa next season? So 2x 1st rd might be the best they get.
Ditto re Martin
I like Fish and Dow, but they have both gone backwards this year with no guarantee they will improve.
Grundy, Martin and Papley would be a massive net gain over Fish/Dow and 2 unknown 1st rd picks imo.
Sometimes you have to give up a lot to gain substantially

So, went back over the Port board's posts. A very reputable poster who I worked with for over 10 years posted about Wines. About same time one of our guys seemed to back up the story. I didn't notice any traction here.

Will one of the co captains even be here next year?

That depends on Carlton's $4m over 5 year offer.

7 years is nuts. He’d be 33 and would have spent 13 years being belted in the ruck, with at least the majority of his first seven years being essentially one out - and that scenario likely to continue for the foreseeable future. He’ll be in pieces by the time he’s 30.

His management look after Shiel, Lynch and obviously think they have the TM stamp on seven year deals. As good as he is Collingwood would be mad to cave on that. Given the likely discrepancy in trade value vs FA comp they should push for a trade now - unless they think they’re a chance of winning the flag of course (I hope they do think that).

Conventional theory regarding ruckmen is that they dont start to really develop until mid-late 20's and early 30's is not considered too old . Grundy has been an exceptionally precocious developer, but i really dont think we should hold that against him. All ruckman have played a lot of footy by the tile they are in their 30's. his wear and tear will not be any worse than other ruckman IMO.

Just as a comparison....
Mumford 33yr
Goldstein 31 yr
Kreuzer 30 yr
Sandilands 36 yr

Yeah, whoa... have we suddenly gone troppo for Small Fwds? Wonder if there is there anything else on the shopping list?
Riley Knight was an inside mid as a junior but could also play outside.

He has been forced to half forward a lot but that doesn't mean we want him for that role.

Endurance is one of his attributes, he is a ferocious tackler so I can only echo what others have said about him being an Ed Curnow replacement or a second tagger should we need it.
