People need to remember that we only have 7 empty spots on our list if we don't trade anyone.

3 of those need to be used in the draft or to upgrade rookies.

3 are being used for Betts, Papley and Martin.

That only leaves 1 more spot. We aren't going to get all these extra players mentioned.
8 if Phillips asks for a trade ...

There wouldn't be much point to a trigger if both sides had to agree to invoke it - it would have no point.

Further on this, entire premise of this gives power to the player. No longer happy at a club? Leave as a RFA/UFA at specific trigger points. Of course this comes at inherent risk that if you get a serious injury or your form goes downhill that the club won't trigger and you're a RFA/UFA at an unfortunate time.

We need to work through the trade with Carlton and get Eddie to work through the trade with us, which will get worked through there is no doubt about that.

No point having a superstar ruckman as your #2, getting paid $800K to play VFL or worse....being forced to play him out of position in the fwd line......

What we need is a backup ruck who can also play forward. That was what Darcy Cameron was supposed to be, but unfortunately Collingwood won that battle.

Current game has zero place for one dimensional rucks anymore. They essentially need to be Ruck/resting forward, or Ruck/midfielder.

Dunno if people missed it, but Fisher broke his leg late in 2018, which is a bit of an impediment on his 2019 pre-season I would guess.

Should have just used his other leg

Lang and Phillips likely gone.

Yesterday I had to learn how to get my quotes from another forum right. Only took 3 goes! :p

I would happily give Phillips 2 years. I think he is the perfect backup ruckman.

You want a guy who will play for $300-400K. Who is willing to battle away in the VFL for most of the year and step up to AFL for 5-10 matches a year when needed. And not get smashed when that happens.

I think he got badly beaten in rounds 1-2 this year (opposing ruckman was BOG or close), but was excellent in the win against Adelaide. He is a 4/10 ruck. Which is the perfect balance of 'not too good, but not terrible either' you want in your backup.

If 'A Phillips' is not our list, we need to replace him with 'a Phillips'....JMO
Cripps averages a lot more clearances when Philips is in the side. While he was beaten in those first few games he still competed. It was when Lobbe was in the team that we were uncompetitive in the ruck.

No guarantees that a ruck from 2nd grade football like Cameron will be any better. The big positive was that he had a decent run with his body this year.

Even though I think Grundy is about to become the new Pav or Godard on this board, let’s say it happens.

Where does that leave Kruezer? I can’t see both playing in the same match so is Kruezer grundys backup or as much as it pains me to say it does the club move on Kruezer (say Geelong) and find a cheap back up ruckman for Grundy? Kruezer when fit is too good for backup or is he absolutely shot and the club knows it.

Woke up this morning excited that the trade period was beginning today.... Googled it to confirm and was utterly disappointed to realize it doesn't begin until Monday #Impatient

You play them both and decimate all before you....
They would be pretty much unstoppable together if the inner mid & outside runners got there structures right & it’s not like we don’t have the forwards to accept it lace out. Would be seriously scary - can’t see us having the currency or salary space to get it done thou
