Its funny when Hawthorn threw out Lewis, Hodge and Mitchell all in one year they were seen as "brave".

We throw out a bunch of fringe and 2nds players and its a 'mass exodus'

So far out of our 'best 22' from last season to now.

Otten, JJ, Greenwood, CEY not best 22.

and Port were ruthless...and they got rid of their best players. We are getting rid of list cloggers and it's an 'exodus'

8-5 at the bye 6/8 bottom 10 sides, 4/6 absolute sludge.

Our two decent wins were at home against injury hit sides.

8-5 with that fixture is not a good start.

Doomsdayers think we will be bottom 4. I dont think we'll see a huge change.

We will certainly be ahead of GC and St Kilda... probably Freo too.

I think one of the main reasons we will drop, is we are stagnating or maybe slightly dropping I see those below or around us improving

Yeah it is irrelevant, 8-5 with our fixture was terrible.

We beat some crap sides and 2 good ones hit by injuries.

Yeah, assuming we don't lose Crouch then there's not a lot of downside in the players that we are losing. Possibly Keath depending on how well Doedee comes back, but other than that I reckon the one we'll miss most is actually Jenkins, and even he spent half the year out of the side. I'll miss Eddie because he's Eddie and I bloody love Eddie, but I don't think we'll actually lose a lot in terms of on-field output.

It comes down to whether the upside in our younger players, who have been denied opportunities until now, can exceed the downside from the decline of our older players like Sloane and Tex.

The massive unknown factor is obviously the coach, though - getting a good one could push us up the ladder faster than expected, a bad one could screw us for a decade.

Considering we identified Josh on Essendon's rookie list - no reason to say we can't work something like that again to unearth another potential bargain

On this note. I'm very on board with bringing in 3ish players (including Frampton) who fit this mold this offseason.

The payoff for a rebuild if you can even get one of these types to click is immense as it can be used to fill positions which are ideally filled cheaply, whilst not burning your big collateral pieces to do so. Not only that, but pull it off early enough and with a set of new coaches it may also be enough to springboard us back into fighting for a position in the 8, which in itself is huge for a side which should be full of kids.

Or at least, gives reason for a huge deal of optimism which in itself can be used to attract more and more players.

Esp if they're going to pay the majority of JJ's wages.

The off chance we get Schaz right is a huge win.

Well the at worse is we've improved our draft position and stopped us from digging as deeply at the bottom of the barrel, or at least if we are, they're rookie picks which are even more low risk.

Considering we should be looking at 2 additions more than what we have on our list (as there is no reason we shouldn't be going in with a full seniors list next season) even the worst case is pretty solid from chump change.

lastest was JJ undergoing a tour/medical at Collingwood and a Straight swap for Scharenberg been talked about.

If Collingwood are genuinely considering this then sharenberg is officially shot

Why not? They're acquiring him for the promotional opportunities, and the 10,000 extra memberships they want this year.

Because they're only going to have his services for one year. A pick in the 40s might be in play if he had 3 years left on the clock, but not when it's definitely his last year.

Consider the trades for Hodge & Mitchell. Both went with one or two years left to play, and both went for chicken feed. We'll get the same for Betts, and rightly so.

What’s the evidence?

As far as I know (I stand to be corrected) besides the club admitting that it was a miss there has been no one on record that has provided any insight on the camp.
