Like I said, there's a glitch in this thread. Happened to me maybe 6 weeks ago, and at least another 3-4 posters since then who have commented.

It could be money, it could be that he didn't interview that well with us?

I'd say Butler was only ever a fallback for Papley. I'd think once Papley nominated us then we would have been upfront with Butler. He looks headed to StKilda now.

Papley + Betts + someone else would be ideal.

Papley for the next 10 years, Betts for 2020 and then reassess, and someone waiting in the wings to cover for injury in 2020 and replace Eddie after that.

Maybe Butler (and possibly Gray?) was viewed as an alternative to Papley, and we'll see a young small forward picked up in the draft as well. I think I'd rather hit the draft for a small forward than drop $250k or whatever it is on Butler. His ceiling isn't particularly high, so there seems little risk in going to the draft instead (especially given we need to use a few picks at the draft anyway).

I’m talking about the posturing that goes on year in, year out and the long winded negotiations that drag out. Both of our seasons finished ages ago, plenty of time to talk and sort out a fair trade. It’s stupid that this trade will take a few days, why waste half of trade week pushing for something that you won’t get?
