If I’m Essendon, I’m taking the best deal for Daniher this season.

-free agent next year
-11 games in 2 years
-at least some concern re: his OP
-doesn’t want to be there
-his worth dramatically drops if he misses most of this season with injury

Tough call letting go of a key forward though.

I'd say Butler was only ever a fallback for Papley. I'd think once Papley nominated us then we would have been upfront with Butler. He looks headed to StKilda now.
Fallback at best I would say. When we are desperately in need of a small forward it's more important that the player they recruit is an A grader, not less important to the point where any C grader will do.

I'm not sure that's how they will look at it though

pretty surprised to see people on here posting rumours from fb sites, and a bunch of other posters getting into hysterics over it about trading Murphy...could not get a more illegitimate source.

Might have to start banning posts from Facebook/Twitter fan pages.
Sure does cause unnecessary hysteria.

Amazing how some get taken in by them with false belief with the old 'if it's on social media, it must be true'.

Are you really surprised?

Missing out on Butler isn't really an issue, IMO. He's a form player; when he's in good knick, he's an AFL caliber small forward, and can be quite a good one, but when he isn't he's VFl material, and barely that.

Richmond could afford to keep him around because they had the luxury of possessing eleventy thousand small forwards, and could play him when in form and drop him for someone more consistent when he wasn't, but they're now starting to have better options.

Please do. Murphy requesting a trade to Brisbane?... Spare me!

Oh my god! Charlie Curnow is set to have knee surgery after hurting it playing basketball. Gonna have a delayed pre season. I’m done

You can look at it this way also. Maybe he has some underlying issue with his knee that needs a clean out. Better to have happened now rather than next season.

Perhaps it’s the fact he’s smack bang in the age group we are crying out for, he is a no nonsense hard footballer who plays in the midfield and he immediately takes a lot of the massive workload placed on Cripps shoulders,he’s a best and fairest winner, runner up this year and people speak of him as if he’s a leper, he would be our second best mid and you wouldn’t take him for free? Spare me, you obviously have no interest in the Blues improving if that was your true position.

Viney would definitely help Cripps in the middle and then would have them shooting the hardball outside to Walsh, Murphy and Fisher who can then use their outside run and not have to worry about the contested pill. Ed Curnow is another who gets the contested ball so having 3 contested ball winner in the middle with 3-4 outside runners would be a great midfield IMO

My thoughts exactly! At least he will still get a little bit of pre-season into him by having surgery now instead of finding out at the start of pre-season and possibly not playing round 1.

Interesting on the SEN breakfast show this morning that Grundy is up for grabs not just to South Australia for 7 year deal at right $$$.

I guess someone has bitten on his 7 year deal (another Melbournce club?) and basically the warning has gone to Pies he is firm on term and dollars and will walk next year to another club unless Pies meet the terms of his offer.

Don't think a trade gets done this year though.

We do need a ruckman but 7 years.....

I reckon the name of the mystery player will come out this week - should it be going ahead. Will be a serious coup.

I'm not sure if Carlton09 and I are talking about the same player (I can only assume that we are) - however my opinion is that his reference to "7 years bad luck" was more in regard to the length of the deal we've proposed and no other link to the player.

This is 100% a watch this space.

NRiewoldt talking sense ...

I particularly like the bit where Riewoldt says

“So if they don’t get held captive by Eddie and his talent and his history, and they’re prepared to make the hard decisions on whether he plays or not and whether he’s in the best team or not, and he is happy to be a part of that, then I don’t have an issue with it."

That's it in a nut shell for me. Tick all those boxes and it will be a win for the club.
