The last three drafts we have focused on getting help for Cripps I don't think we should sell the farm for a midfielder.

SPS Dow Walsh 3 top 5 picks
LOB and Fisher 10 and mid 20's
Settlefield two seconds

If those guys can't step up we are screwed anyway because our drafting has failed.

Add Stocker into that list as well at #19.

Stocker will be the one.

Stocker and Setterfield are likely the answer, but need another season or 2.

SPS isn't an inside mid as proven this year.

LOB seems good on the wing or outside.

If there was a mystery player, maybe we make play on the last day. Probably just too focused on getting Papley and Martin at the moment. No reason to show all your cards now.
With what? The idea that we can land an elite mid with "the best of what's left" is laughable.

If there was a mystery player it would have been a choice between him or Papley and Martin.

While supporters may find trade time entertaining, it’s purpose is not to entertain.

It’s not about the entertainment, it’s that it is needlessly long. They’ve had it longer periods and shorter, and all the list managers procrastinate until the end. It’s just a huge waste of everyone’s time.

I'd like trade week to be compressed to about 1 hour, a speed dating scenario, you get to spend 3 minutes with each club. Make your pitch and move on quickly.

With respect, zeg - SPS was outstanding in the guts a few times this year in his first season after having a pre-season. Was moved back due to necessity late. Think the club still see him in and around the middle long-term and may be back in there again for 2020 with Doc and Marchy back on the park.

I suspect a lot of deals wouldn't be done as there's zero time for due diligence. I will say that the better List Managers/Teams would absolutely fleece the lesser ones. Gold Coast would need the AFL to be their representative as they'd be totally screwed otherwise.

Nope.

You can trade future first or anything future but the first.

Or you know, whatever you feel like it depending on the AFL's mood.
Or anything you want if you're Geelong or Hawthorn.....

Inside: Cripps, Dow (Kennedy, Silvagni)
In/out: Walsh, Setterfield, Stocker, Gibbons (Doc)
Outside: SPS, Martin, O'Brien (Cutler?)
Fwd/Mid: Papley, Fisher, Cuningham (Butler?)

You have to admire west coast for getting their work done early. Each year we’re accustomed to the same peddling by our recruitment team. Incompetent would be the right word. Pay up and be done with it ffs
Calm down.
The deals will get done.

Like what I said previously, by the looks of it we have prioritise getting Papley and Martin over this mystery player. Of course we going to have chump change after we secure the above players.

Fully agree & the tin foil hat view would be to say that the whole thing has turned into a cottage industry created by the AFL to allow the media spivs and hangers-on a chance to earn some extra coin at the end of the season & keep AFL in the papers in a positive light during the off season when all the players are on the turps.

For as long as player movement and speculation dominates the 24-hour media cycle, and provides the AFL with exposure and site hits etc, there's no incentive for them to shorten the trade period. It's a no-brainer - all this coverage for essentially zero effort or expense, at a time of year where there's a sporting news vacuum to fill.

That's effectively what the morning of day 1 is.

If the trade period was only that, hardly anything would happen. A lot hinges not just on the individual trades but all of the trades in context.

There isn't a 'football' discussion poster here that bothers me.
O.K. I don't read every post, but I cannot name a poster that's so over the top, they stand out in any way.
Room for all opinions and discussion of those opinions....trolls excluded.
I like this post
