yeah i don't disagree just asking, but when you ask something that ridiculous its just dumb. What they asking is more than what they got for Neale.

Brad Hill is contracted and a very very good player.

He'll cost two picks.

Saints look they are biting off more than they can chew. They might pull it off but it will cost them.

Irrelevant analogy?

You're assuming we're spending all our time chasing a way to get a better deal on Betts, when the reality is that we'd be looking at other deals for players/picks, in case we can use the change from those to make the Betts deal better.

We've presumably got a deal done, in principal, and both sides are happy to let it sit a little longer in case an opportunity comes up to work it into a bigger deal. Or, as suggested elsewhere, the clubs are still hashing out the money. Either way, we're not missing out on Eddie, we're not running up any more of a bill on our recruiting team's wages, there's just no rush for either side to lodge the paperwork immediately given this deal isn't going to act as the first domino for anything else.

I kind of just like the story and the relation to being obsessed with getting the best price at the expense of maybe missing out on something else. It wasn’t in direct relation to Eddie.

The posturing by all clubs frustrates me, when surely they all know that they are all talking BS, cut the BS, do your shopping, get your drill.

But sometimes a bargain is exactly that.

I have wanted a Breville Barista Coffee machine and had been checking prices for some time. Then Harvey Norman advertised it at $649 (cheapest price I'd seen) and were offering a carton of Wolf Blas wine as well valued at $300. Checked the Wolf Blas website and found that it was indeed a $300 carton so went into the store and found the price dropped to $599. Hard to resist a coffee machine for $299.

The wine was better than the coffee I made but working hard on the latter and the only added cost (I have no charge out rate) was $1 for fuel and a significant increase to the exercise regime working off the wine and coffee induced weight gain.

That’s a bloody good deal, if you got the wine and then returned the coffee machine, I’d call you Stephen.

Yeah don't disagree with that. It it will be stupid on St.Kilda part to do that deal. Pick 6 and 2020 First Round (Most likely a pick between 2-10) and 2nd round will crucify them where their list is at the moment.

I am under the impression they are doing a mini-rebuild so they can chase for finals berth in 2-3 years time.

IMHO Freo making a statement.

If any club comes wooing our “in contract” players - be prepared to cough up.

We’re not going to roll over and make it easy for you.

Fair enough - I’d do the same.
They've already done this in the past with Weller.

If you want him you're going to have to pay for him.

That's a lot, obviously.

But Saints have offered a contracted player $900kpa, so I can understand it as a starting point.
They're not going to get it though.

They are starting very high.

Saints probably starting low like just pick 6, or they might even be wanting something back with Hill for 6.

Posturing to meet in the middle of something like pick 6 and a second rounder...similar to what Neale went for. Hill is worth similar, arguably more.

So we are still in the frame for Butler, despite reports that we were no longer interested?

Agresta said we had small interest...he didn't shut the door completely.
Kind of at odds with what SOS said at the same time.

Sounds like we are still in the mix but he's a very low priority.

Agree. If you going to sign a contract, at least commit to it.

Yep.

Be interesting to know if Hills Freo contract was “front ended”.

As I understand it Gibbs and Ryder (at*) did a runner halfway through front ended contracts.

I’ve read Fantasia is doing the same.

Considering the difference in pick six this year compared to last year then that is exactly what I’d be asking for if I was Freo.

Same if I was Sydney, I would be demanding pick 9 and a future second for Papley but probably accept pick 9 and a future 3rd. (Considering they need points next year)
No way in hell am I confident that my 6th rated player in this years draft will be as good as Hill or my 9th better then Papley so why accept that when they are contracted.

So if he comes to us, it will probably be one of those last minute trades that get done, essentially because it can?
