Trading a future first for Martin and a future second isn’t a good deal, especially in a compromised draft unless we are going to trade that pick this year.
North for example won ten games this year and got pick 7. If we get say pick ~7 next year that may get pushed out to say ~10 with clubs matching. GC’s pick 20 could get pushed out to say ~28.
If we trade GC future second this year though I could understand it.

Should we sneak into the 8 for example, it would be Martin plus pick 20 for pick 13.

With all the different academy and f/s next year, it would be something like Martin plus pick 24 for pick 17

Not the worst trade

I just don’t think we should be punting on winning a final next year which we would have to go get say pick 13

The elimination final losers will get picks 12 and 13 next season.

Also it’s not clear the Suns will get the wooden spoon - the Crows aren’t looking great as are the Dockers.

SOS wouldn't dare trade our future first for Martin and GC's future second. Terrible idea.

1. We have to hang onto a first as there will be other possibilities later in the trade period.
2. We now have live trading. What if a player we rated at 6 was there at 19 but we had nothing to trade with?

One of our firsts will disappear for any combination of Papley and Martin. We just can't lose two firsts.

This is not set in stone though.
Should GC have a good year the AFL could take away that provisional pick.
That's the way I understood it to be.

It’s just click bait media however if ever there were 2 drafts SOS would ditch our firsts for it’d be this and next years. No big deal if we’re getting quality players that suit out timeline

Only my opinion and we are all allowed one.......
Jack Martin might have talent and he might have potential but 2019 in the bottom of the ladder team has shown where his football is actually at...perhaps he’s not happy playing up there and this has been reflected by his relegation to the NEAFL....his current status doesn’t warrant a first round pick.
The AFL, with their concessions to GC have allowed them to play some hardball with trading.
He’s uncontracted, they don’t really want him at the club now....play back harder SOS

Perhaps for Martin we could do our 9 and 43(ish) for him and 15. Seems simple as only a slight pick downgrade for us and values Martin at 25.
Swans could accept 15 for Papley if it's not part of Daniher trade.

Otherwise if Papley isn't available you could add 48 into the trade above and change it for Martin and next years 11 from GCS which means we swap our 1st this year to next so we have 2 to play with for a big name.

Today show just ran with Sydney willing to include Sam Reid in the Daniher trade.
Now we're talking.

Not sure what he's worth, but he's a goal a game premiership 27yo key forward who I believe is contracted. Hypothetical:

Sydney get Daniher and 48
Essendon get pick 9, Phillips, Reid
Carlton get Papley and 25

Sydney get to keep pick 5. Essendon get a replacement ruck and don't have to lose a key forward. We get the capital we need for Martin.

Imagine how trade week eventuated for these blokes back then 🙂🙂

Middle row 2nd from left, that’s Wally Koochew.

Know his great grand daughter.

1st chinese player to play the game.

Legend.

What if we went something along the lines of

future 1st + 3rd 48 for Martin + 58 + 2020 pick 11 (everyone assume blues won’t make finals)

Then 11 + 9 + 43 -> pick 3 + Pick 50

Pick 3 + ??? Player -> pick 2?

Any number of pick swaps would seal a deal and I still believe his value is in the 20-26 range. Once the draft is over and Academy etc bids play out, that value will sit squarely around a mid 2nd pick. Any deal that allows us to get Martin for less than a mid 2nd, should be seen as a massive tick

China has over 1.1 Billion people, if the AFL was able to tap in to just 0.25% of the population it would make for an explosion in advertising revenue, it’s all about the $$$$

It would work brilliantly until somebody tweeted about Hong Kong ;)

Agreed Azz....and this is the opinion of many other, smarter people than me.

That sounds like a Dodoro deal. Start out way too high. End up in about the right area.

Reid plus pick 9 and a second pick upgrade is about right.

Reid plus pick 5 is also fine.

Reid is not a top 10 Pick quality. But Daniher is not actually worth 2 top 10 picks.

Essendon sells this as Daniher replacement + a top 10 Pick. Sydney gets their man

The Sam Reid to Essendon talk was discussion on Trade Day. So too was McCartin if someone runs with that one. They were saying that Essendon needed to get a pick and a key forward back in the deal to make it more palatable. That Sydney wouldn't want to trade McCartin and that Reid was a readymade who while he had never fulfilled his potential was still a good fit..
