Dodos reasoning is completely solid on this one.

Your contracted, prime age, 200cm+ forward that your whole offence will operate around wants to leave, and you’re given (hypothetically) picks 5 & 25.. your options are extremely limited. Aka Jenkins.

On the other hand, he's an unhappy player who wants out (not only of the club, but of the city), has managed to play only 11 games in the past 2 years, and will be a Free Agent next year.

As desperate as the situation is for *, I think they're going to be better off just getting it done.
Rip the bandaid off and be proactive.

But that's not the Dodo way.

You really think SOS won't have plan B ready to go?

Is there someone we can realistically take at 9 that adds something to the team this season?

Say a small forward that’s ready to go ala Higgins, or someone who adds run off half back / wing?

If Dodo gets his way nothing will ever get done..........it`s about his ego, and it got smashed at the trades last year so he is grandstanding as per usual this year.........he is not the same as the other list managers as he always holds out until the last minute or does no deal at all.......Daniher does not want to be at * because he feels like he under pressure there.....someone alluded to it on the rumours only file a little while ago about his troubles being non football related, it sounds like it is a mental health issue and he wants to make a clean break of it away from Melbourne, and * would be aware of that and yet they want to keep putting more pressure on him to stay..........all this is right up Dodos alley as he loves being the centre of attention, and the other clubs hate dealing with him the most because he is just so obstinate!!! The ducks may be lined up at our end but we will most likely miss out on Papley if Dodo keeps holding out for the crown jewels.........as he always does.
Yep that ******* campaigner Dodo is going to **** us up and ensure we miss out on Papley with his posturing all the way to the trade deadline 🤬😡

Whilst dodo can be his own worst enemy at times, I do respect his 'we'll make the bastards pay" type of attitude.
He's no SOS, but he is a shit load smarter operator than what Hughes and Rogers were.
This is fine if you have a player in peak form and in the club's best interest to keep, and i know Daniher is a 'once in a generation' type player when fit, but really? 11 games in 2 years, a failing body, and a genuine desire not to play at the club anymore, I'd very much doubt keeping him over some decent picks is doing the right thing by the club. In fact, it's screwing them big time, considering they need to get some serious talent through the door soonish to assist Heppel & co. I think he's just being his egotistical stubborn self.

Sure, but his reasoning to dig his heels and extract maximum value for Joe is solid. Eventually, they’ll have to bring in a key forward which is going to be near impossible.

My own personal feeling is the Papley deal still gets done, but not until the Wednesday deadline (as Barass suggested)

No need for panic stations at this point in time folks 🙂

Swans playing hard ball with Papley.. looks like we’re won’t know until Wednesday.Martin and Betts will be done.
I imagine the Swans want pick 9 straight up for Papley whereas we want their pick 25 in return (possibly exchanged for 43) which means we can get Martin done for pick 25 this year (rather than trading a future 2nd for him)?

It'll be a classic stalemate until the last minute where someone has to blink. Daniher is the biggest fish in this trade and Swans will have to blink first and get pick 9 to make it work. Everybody knows that's in the mix and Dodoro is probably the most stubborn person to trade with so the dominos fall when Sydney cave to get their man. They have invested too much time and energy convincing him to come for that deal not to get done. Franklin is cooked and Blakey and Daniher (25 years old) is their future for probably the next 6-8 years.

SOS has nerves of steel and whilst we will all be freaking out as it looms close to the deadline and this deal still isn't done their won't be a bead of sweat coming off his brow.

I agree he might get 40 kicks next season.

I actually have a bit of optimism that Polly could be a big improver next year. There is something there to work with that lad, he may just yet surprise us yet !

Not when we are crying out for a need he can likely deliver it`s not, especially if SOS can get pick 25 back or something like it.

9 & 41 for Papley & 25 is a different proposition all together.

9 & 41 straight for Papley is most certainly a hefty price - one which I think SoS wouldn’t be willing to pay.

Looks like there's still a fair amount of posturing going on, primarily because of Dodo's stance on Daniher. I can't believe that bullshizen they're spinning about "we"ll get him to fall in love with the club again"....it's not the club being questioned, it's the bubble of AFL football in Melbourne he hates.

* are delusional....he's a FA at the end of 2020, so can exercise is right to leave anyway, and they may only end up with an end of first round draft pick. Do they really think they are currently in the premiership window, and hold a gun to his head to stay with them for potentially may only be for one more year. It really appears they're just creating a lot of noise to get the Swans nervous and up their offer. Subsequently holding up the Papley deal.

For whatever reason though, I still think all the pieces will fall into place late in the game...seems like a bit of a stare down between Swans and *, and wait to see who blinks first.

Hmmm, maybe if it was a one off.

But generally, as a list manager, you're better off going for good value, and getting things done to improve your list.

Geelong, Richmond, Hawthorn, West Coast, Sydney are all generally good to trade with. Which method is more successful?

I’m fine if we don’t get Papley. We keep whatever (9?) we would have given up for him. Prefer Papley Obvs. Just not wrist slitting stuff.
I'd be happy to pay up 9 by itself for Papley. Known entity, perfect fit for needs, still young with a good 10 years ahead of him, good goal sense. We know what we're buying and have a very good sense of his minimum output and what he can possibly become. All this vs a pick 9 used at the draft on an 18 year old kid, whose trajectory is a whole lot more unknown and most likely will take 3-4 years to play a solid game week in week out.
