The only way I see Wines and Papley being done now is if Port are super pi**ed off and want to see the back of him really badly. Otherwise we just don't have the currency.

Speculative reasons it's leaked now.

1. Port have no idea. Either Carlton or Wines camp leak it to get Port ready for the request.
2. Initial talks were a firm no from Port. Carlton or Wines leak it to "invigorate" discussions for a captain who wants out.
3. Initial talks were a hesitant no from Carlton. Wines camp leak it to get both parties back to the table.

Can't think of many other reasons it would leak prior to the end of the trade period. I reckon it's still a maybe. If we miss Martin I can see us going for Wines with that currency.

There's 2 rules. The one you mentioned plus if you trade your future first you can't trade any of your other future picks. And conversely if you trade a future second/third/etc you can't trade your future first

The rule is squidgy like all AFL rules. Clubs can't trade blahblah picks over such-and-such a period without the AFL's permission. We would have a really strong case to seek permission to over-trade our picks because we have taken so many early picks the past few years. But who knows, the magic formula might come back with "computer says no".

I don't understand why we need Adelaide to pay for some of Eddie Bett's salary in exchange for a higher draft pick from us. Surely, we have plenty of space under the cap to pay Betts $400K for one season. We were gonna give Congilio at least a mill a year.

We should be paying Eddie's full salary so we keep the higher draft pick. Adelaide should be getting our Pick 85.

SOS needs to bite the bullet and bring in J. Martin by offering our future 2nd round pick and also pick 43 this year.

I don't think Sydney will trade Papley. As such, SOS needs to exchange with Fremantle our Pick 9 and our future 1st round pick for Brad Hill and Fremantle's Future 2nd Round Pick.
