If he goes delisted free agent we are 3rd in line behind a club hes leaving and Melbourne. We would just have to put up big bucks they can't match in the PSD wouldn't we?
Melbourne surely couldn't afford him / wouldn't want him given they've just picked up two wingers and have spent big on Lever and May the last two seasons.

Yep or they can re draft him and play him in the Neafl on a high salary.

Players can manipulate the PSD easily. Easily. Eg: nominate 1m a year for 2 years. “Go ahead GC, draft me.” They don’t. Blues then do- they have to honour the deal but...you wouldn’t believe it, he’s re-signed for 200 a year for a further 3 years because he loves it so much”

This is really poor by the AFL with regards to the bonus picks afforded to GC, it has really strengthen their hand for number of picks which is probably the reason they are being so hard on this trade. They have so many picks they can afford to be fussy.

AFL will love it if Martin walks to psd

Guess what mateee you'reeeee wrong.

This has been gone over 100 times, just because it hasn't been expressly announced doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

It takes place immediately before the rookie draft and will only be used for uncontracted players who are not traded yet aren't delisted free agents.

If it didn't exist, there would be no method to deal with a player like Jack Martin if a trade is not done. Ergo, it must exist.
You're right - I am corrected!

If Martin does not get traded, what's the future for him (i.e. how do we get him) given at October 31st, he's out of contract?

Do we have to draft him through the ND, or can we sign him as a DFA?
He can also nominate for PSD

Don't really understand the posturing from Gold Coast. Their choices are:

1. Trade him for a future second to us (maybe change)
2. Don't trade him, and pick him up again in the PSD on what will likely be a one year nominated contract, and we do this all again next year, in what would be an absolutely atrocious move by a club already under massive pressure
3. Lose him for nothing to us or Melbourne in the PSD...

Only way GC could have any leverage in my view is if they could convince Martin to go to another club who would then start a bidding war...outside of that, they are in a pretty tough spot on this one...
