I’d be feeling pretty good about our off season at that point.

SOS was queried if #9 was on the table for Papley and responded with it was part of it. Doesn’t give much away.

Yes, i saw that response and it far from confirmed that pick 9 on its own was offered.
This needs to be cleared up one way or another i reckon.

There's no reason to elevate any of our rookies right now. Either retain them, or delist them. The only player unavailable for selection is Owies, with cat B rookie elevations requiring an LTI.

I see us elevating Gibbo if we want to take another speculative / insurance player as a rookie. SOS might want to keep a rookie spot for mid-2020 rookie draft. Currently just the 2 rookie spots available, Lebois and DeLuca spots.

Aside from TRP, Papley’s manager said we couldn’t have done any more. The problem was some dumb ****ery at the Scum, not cashing in.

We can’t control what * do.
All we could do was make our absolute best offer and if pick 9 on it’s own wasn’t offered ... we didn’t.
If it were officially confirmed that pick 9 was offered on it’s own, i think every fair minded Carlton supporter could accept we made our best offer and move on.

Let's not roll out the depth thread this year as the reality is, we'll be kidding oursleves.
We don't have depth and now look likely to attain more 18 year olds than we would have liked to, along with topping up on DFA's or senior players via the rookie drafts. I can already see another O'Shea, Mullet and Shaw incoming.

I think it's likely that you just leave Gibbons as a rookie while you can and take the opportunity to select a player at 57. The only benefit to upgrading Gibbo with pick 57 would be if we'd exhausted our "likely to make it as a player" list and we only had players from our "might make it as a player but has good upside and isn't really on anyone else's radar" list remaining. We could then take them in the rookie draft where we can give them a one year contract to see how they respond to a professional environment.

With live trading, I wonder if there's a scenario where we have one player on our recruiting list remaining at about pick 50, and we choose to swap next year's third rounder for a fourth rounder, in order to move up the order to take that player. Or vice versa, if another club was keen on a player at 57 but we weren't fussed so we took the opportunity to upgrade a 2020 pick.

Edit: senior list could be buoyed by Martin & Newnes plus any other DFA’s that could be brought on board e.g. S.Gray if he becomes one or OOC.

If we're speculating, we're likely investing 2 years in the player, so there's no reason to position ourselves further down in the player pool unless there are massive, massive character concerns (and we shouldn't be looking at a player in those circumstances).

If we feel that we still need to reinforce this list with state-league players just because they'll be more serviceable for a year, the entire list management and recruitment teams should be sacked, because we're in the process of doing that with Betts, Martin and Pittonet, and we retained Goddard, Gibbons, Lang and Levi.

By the time next season starts, we'll have maybe 12 players on the list who are U21, and that includes O'Brien and Walsh. We're not fully seasoned, but there's enough match hardening and experience to not need any more senior backups. Like I implied, there's a huge number on our list in that 21-24 bracket now, so if we're still calling them all kids, I don't know what we're really doing with our list build.

Kicked 43.19 and averaged 20 touches from 16 games in the NEAFL this year (including 24 touches, 4.1 in the NEAFL GF)
Yeah, i know its the NEAFL.. but can play in the midfield and forward, is a decent size too (listed as 185 cm/89 kg).

Pretty sure he’s an Irish hopeful.

Only just turned 18, possible future ruck a# he is about 213 cm.

Probably won’t be seen in the seniors for several years.

How do we rate our under 22’s going into Season 2020?:

In my opinion:

Best 22: SPS, Weitering, Walsh, Setterfield, McKay, L’Ob

(Players 23-28 on list ... first in after injury / form ... or Martin if we get him takes the spot of ... ):
Fisher, Dow, Stocker, Williamson, JSOS

Depth: Macreadie, TDK, Polson, BSOS, P’Dwyer, Cottrell
