Toast Ben Crocker and Lynden Dunn

Thanks for your efforts Ben, you did something many us couldn’t.
Here’s a little reminder of the despair and the ultimate joy of draft day...

Crocker improved in the VFL in 2019 especially on a wing, however if we can’t find a spot for Aish on a wing we can’t find one for Crocker either.

If he doesn’t get a chance elsewhere it be a good to see him lineup for our VFL side.
Aish could have potentially moved back to the wing but he said in an article on the AFL website this year that the fact his PCL requires ongoing management (due to not having surgery) means he can't do the huge amounts of running required.

Hardly a bizarre draft choice. It was a late draft pick. Players chosen at this end of the draft are more likely misses than hits. He is obviously of good character so club probobly figured that would improve his chances of making it. Maybe someone else chosen may have gone on and done better, but they would have been no less speculative.
From memory he was in a few Phantom drafts within the top 30. Don't quote me though.

I don't see much value in keeping Dunn on the list, even as a rookie. If Roughie hadn't come in last year then possibly we could have retained him but it's time, first year back after a reco is not easy and I struggle to see him go around next year.

Best of luck to him if he gets a start, he has done Collingwood a service and he can hold his head high.

I'm ambivalent. On the 1 hand he should get a full preseason under his belt given the timing of the 2nd ACL so could find form early to mid-season, on the other you aren't guaranteed he'll ever recapture that pre-ACL form. If he could recapture that form, I'd actually have him in the senior side before Roughy. He's quicker, better 1v1, more offensively minded, and a better kick. Time will tell.

i actually remember - sketchily - the procedure of Ben being drafted. He had a tv outside broadcast team in his lounge room if i remember correctly and there was stuff about him living next to scott burns. The TV people usually like to bet on certainties with good stories for the telecast and the "view" was that he would be picked up mid draft or something. The commentators noted a few times that he wasnt being picked up....

And Derek came in and did the deed and there was much celebration..... lots of romance and high fiving.... I do remember that I thought it was a good deal because apparently he was an accomplished junior....

So if my memory is working properly, he wasn't your ordinary kid on draft night.

When are we delisting Appleby and the Madge.

I would like to enjoy my summer months without having to think about em.
Jeez one bad game from Apples when we had no key positions left and he had to be played out of position

Madge is a free hit so probably staying, you should start drinking now, you aint getting that Summer

Never been a fan of a lockdown defender. You need to give something going the other way re.. have the forward opposition worried about what you're gonna do going foward half the time..

And if you can't play out of position in this day and age.. when your mates are pressing forward and your left defending a certain player.. then you've got to find a way to make it difficult for em.. can't do that.. out the door.

He was like a maypole against the gws lads. They took the piss out of him.

Like I said one bad game after a really solid 1st season, sure we'd love Blair to play in the ruck and Schaz to run like Crisp but they don't and that day was on the coaches, not the player... and everyone is taking the piss out of the GWS boys now so all good :thumbsu:

I am referring to the first JLT game he played in the affluent suburb of Moe.. up until today.

I have never liked him.

Ok but he was fantastic 1st season despite Moe's new found affluence

He was drafted in the 5th round... hardly "highly rated". Maybe he has good leadership and always tried his best, but there's probably 20-30 kids with skills like him every year that never get drafted. He had 4 years in the system, and got a head start in life, can't complain. Hopefully he saved a few hundred thousand and can become a plumber and make even more money than he was on anyway...
Round doesn’t really matter.
He was rated enough to be drafted. Do you know how many are drafted each year? Do you know how many actual players are on senior lists? And how many player in Australia there are that want to be on senior lists?
He made a senior list at a club challengingly for a Premiership.
That, my friend, deserves HUGE respect.

Emergency service workers and police deserve HUGE respect. At the end of the day he's a vfl standard footballer who can move on to a new job, probably a trade... And earn the same money he was as a footballer anyway.. Not the end of the world, good luck to him.

Google Applebys highlights from last year before injury - if he can get back to that form he will make it.
Madge - I tend to agree.

Too risk averse an option.

Re.. if I went out on to a pitch and filmed 100 hrs of me offloading the pill and snagging sausage rolls.. and compiled a 2 min highlights real of it.. you'll think I'm Gary Ablett.

Like I said.. I don't like him. Every position on the pitch is precious. He's not good enough a player in my book to warrant a spot.

Leave it at that.

Appleby warrants a spot somewhere on the list but yep he needs to learn to be creative and he needs to learn that in a hurry. Part of the reason Aish was selected as the sacrificial salary cap lamb was that he was too risk adverse.
