The reason I don’t want Sos to go is because he’s the only one I have continued trust in from the footy department.

You know he’s gonna excel at the role and make the right decisions. Can’t say that for many others.

I would love sos if he was to leave to come back in a couple years as footy boss or president.

I listen to MLo speeches when I’m having trouble sleeping

How can a grown man be so poor at addressing a crowd, we should just roll Jeanie Pratt out as president.

I'm sorry but we shouldn't be trading in players to "flesh out the list". SOS offers these players a contract because he thought they were good enough to play for Carlton. The fact is he was wrong and he must be accountable for that.

Phenomenally wide of the mark.

Context is important, strategy is important, you're ignoring both.

SOS has done an incredible job. Yep, hasn’t got every pick right, but when he started 5 years ago our list was absolutely terrible with minimal trade capital.

He’s turned that into something very promising. Added, he’s also got player salaries under control.

If Lloyd and Liddle are moving him on then would love to know the reason. At the moment, it just looks like an ego war.

Nobody gets every pick right, there are just a handful of peanuts who demand perfection and sling mud when they don't get it.

I do wonder about Lloyd. What does he actually do?

Easy to see value of Liddle though with significant rise in membership and sponsorship deals. He speaks well and he makes sense.

If sos drama is at all linked to Lloyd as well I’d rather they replace Lloyd.
Have to wonder whether Lloyd, who was the list manager of Freo and has been promoted to a bigger and different role at Carlton, can't let go of what he is comfortable with. I know I fell into that trap in my (very different) career.

Needs to stay in his lane and leave the list management to the people whose role that is.

Except for SOS

I completely agree
You have absolutely no comprehension of what corporate governance looks like.

Essendon gave the keys to their messiah Hird and look how that turned out for them.

Liddle's performance has been rightly praised on here for a while now, but now is being called into question over one decision? Let's back him in, this isn't a decision that is getting made lightly, and certainly not without grounds

People saying Liddle shouldn't have had any say in pushing for Eddie are missing one point.

To say it was Liddle that was pushing against SOS position on Eddie is being disingenuous.

That's Liddle coming out supporting the new coach and his request for a player.

Teague wanted Eddie, so that was Teague who was pushing for the player first and foremost.

I thought the player Liddlle was into was Ellis who I am glad we did not pick up for that sort of money, he is an average footballer who has a role to play, he seems okay in a Richmond side, let's see how he handles himself at GC.

Liddle is a good talker, but is membership increasing due to his speeches or is it increasing because people can see a good list being put together and the youth is starting to show some promise? Most clubs memberships rise with good output on the field, we did well to hit 50,000 members when the club was at its lowest. We have a good membership base, and people will jump on when we start consistently winning, it's human nature.

I don't know what is going on behind the scenes, but I do know ego's are a huge problem in all walks of life and sometimes to you have to take a hit to move forward.

Our spine is great but that is about it. I reckon next season, we will come second last because we have too many small/mid seized mids. We need some bigger bodies in the midfield to compete for the top 8.

Then blame Liddle - because he came out months before trade time and said we were needing small forwards and would be chasing them! How inappropriate and stupid was that?

SOS is the only Carlton person left from our winning culture who embraced modern football. Every role has been successful from stkilda assistant, to GWS list management through to his list rebuild at Carlton. What has teague, lloyd or MLG achieved? Liddle was only Richardson's towel boy at Richmond. Mark my words this is the beginning of the end of the MLG presidency
Make Sos CEO and piss off the Richmond bloke.:thumbsu:

In any business you need to back in your CEO - has to be a chain of command and accountability.

If after 2-3 years our membership and profits are down then you look at the CEO's role.

Given everything I'm reading it looks like the perfect time for SOS to move on.

That's one of the issues of not having a Football Manager.
Not a head of football but a manager who develops the game we'll play and the types we need for that game to be executed to maximum effect.
A manager who sees the bigger picture and brings in the List Managers, Recruiters and Coaches and makes the big calls and moulds the whole.

Guess we're not ready for that yet and maybe haven't enough intelligence in the industry to attract such an individual involved....but it will come.
Too much possible disconnect and finger-pointing between coaching, list management and football management as things stand right now.

Picking talent and list management is more art than science.

Let SOS be free, don’t make him work within the lines of your corporate structures.

I question the CEO when he is inviting of his own accord opposition players of to tour the club and trying to woo them into signing when the list manager who is directly responsible for the list says no and is not involved.

This is the shit that happened when Brett was coach and it ****ed us for 5 years.
We can't afford this rubbish egotism again.

SOS has a job. Let him do it unhindered, support him, and at the end of xxx time period review the results. But don't try and do the job for him.

Rubbish.

The 'real' CEO of any football Club is the President and his Board. The title ''CEO" is a BS title given to sales people and general managers whose job it is to manage membership, sponsorship, business development, administration and AFL relationships.

Bolton's perceived failure to win games stressed the organisation because it jeopardised the ability of general management to do their jobs - in simple terms Bolton was perceived to be impacting negatively on the Carlton brand and its message. There is no doubt that Liddle made that decision - how many others supported him we will never know.

As part of this questions were also asked for SOS and his performance.

It is easy for new boys like Liddle to question the hard yards after the fact. It was clear that at the time of Bolton's sacking ( 2 weeks after The president he stated that Bolton still had his full support) that there was a strong movement within the Club to get a new COach - who didn't need training wheels - Judd's words.

These smart aarse words basically spat on the strategy of the Club to do the hard yards of a full rebuild and reset and stay unified.

Who appointed Lloyd and why? What is his job really? What are HIS KPI's?

How many people need to get involved in player trades and list management and who carries the can for mistakes/results and what are the KPI's?

This is a mess - and the bloke who is responsible for this mess is the President - the real CEO. That much is obvious.

I’ve heard it’s more between SOS and Lloyd than Liddle ...

Go back to the TV interview SOS did when Mat Llyod said SOS was conflicted in having sons at Club and SOS turned around and said to Lloyd 'do you want to talk about conflicts'? - meaning the appointment of Mat Llyod's brother to Carlton. if you want to speculate - that particular retort to Llyod on TV - was telling.

Then blame Liddle - because he came out months before trade time and said we were needing small forwards and would be chasing them! How inappropriate and stupid was that?

This was a Hughes/Rogers level move from Liddle. Can hardly blame the person with ultimate accountability for the consequences for doubting the relationship.
