Although i have always thought SOS should step down at the end of next season, i hope we can work through any issues that have arisen recently. As for SOS taking another job in the industry, I'm not so sure, im not sure how a proud father could actively make decisions to weaken his childrens chances at premiership success. Its the same reason, why i don't see SOS being able to go on being list manager, if he has 3 boys on the list. Although, as far as I've been told, this isn't where the issues are coming from.

The time is right for him to move on, reality is he has done what he set out to do ...come in and clean the place up.
he’s done a mighty fine job. He is not in a place in his life where he wants or needs to answer to anyone other than the board of the footy club.

Liddle and Lloyd probably want a more streamlined approach in the footy dept where list management is answerable to them as it’s a club and football matter, with them then reporting to the board. SOS doesn’t need the extra paperwork, he’s in his 50s, he’s loaded, he’s the full back of the century, Carlton premiership player, 300 gamer, Carlton team of the century and he married Jo Bailey... ! Liddle and Lloyd have too much to prove and he can’t be bothered arguing.

Plus his sons are getting to a point where decisions are going to be made on whether they stay at a club where their father is the guy that is in charge of making the call on their career and more importantly the money that they make in comparison to other people that are not his sons....not worth the headache. Job done and thanks very much ...the world knows and Carlton members know that if and when we salute with this group it is SOS flag, his greatest legacy to the club.

Is someone disliking a post you have made, immediately after you dislike one of theirs, the equivalent of the primary school come back "i know you are"

Not sure, but Greg Baum blocked me on twitter after I stopped following him due to his incessant Q&A spam. I never interacted with him. I think that’s the uber version of your concept.

SOS should have the keys and answer to no one

Liddle, Lloyd and (the worst public speaker of all time) LoGiudice are going to cash in on SOSs hard work.

I’ll be pissed at the club for the first time in 5 years if SOS goes.

If he leaves because the CEO is trying to select and recruit players, I would be seriously pissed off and sympathetic to him.

If he leaves because he can’t handle reasonable questioning of his process/results then he should leave.

Anything in between I hope they’re able to sit down, clarify roles and responsibilities and get on with building the list. The job isn’t done yet.

After all the media hype SOS is gone after draft period pretty much guaranteed. If we do in fact poach Beatson can he pull off huge surprise and get Papley delisted? Or is this a zero chance? If Beatson does not come and SOS is gone then who else is there of any credibility as I dont hear any other names? In that case Agresta is the man with guidance from Brad Lloyd ex freo list guru?? I don't see this working unless Liddle has someone in background waiting!!

When we win #17 he will should be the first person we all thank.

Absolute legend and has done one heck of a job with this list.

Turning not much into Multiple first round picks most years, building the best spine in the comp and I can’t fault him.

Will be a huge loss but he’s done what we needed.

Let’s go out with a bang in the nd and a little freebie in the psd to put the cherry on the cake.

Living legend.

Love the work SOS has done, but can see at least two reasons why now could be a good time for a change.

- The big overhaul is done, and now it's more of a steady as she goes kind of job. Different mindset, different skillset, like the difference between winning a war and governing in peacetime. Might not be SOS's forte, might just not be what he's interested in.

- His kids. Sooner or later one of them is going to have a tough or line-ball call on their future and the family connection will only complicate things. Even if SOS plays it completely by the book, it will be hard to avoid the perception of special treatment (if they stay) or the potential risk of family ructions (if they're cut or traded). Probably better for all parties to just avoid the situation entirely.

Will always be grateful to SOS for taking the list from where it was to such a strong position now. Just an outstanding servant of the club.

You said every non drafted player had failed, though. You can list as many as you want, fact of the matter is around 5 of our best 22 came via trades.

And of the failures...

Kerridge did a job for a number of years. Lamb the same. Wright better than both. Lobbe and Phillips were depth only behind Kreuzer. ASOS was purely short term. And these players cost, collectively, Menzel and a few fourth round picks.

There were some poor selections in the mix too, Palmer, Gorringe, Smedts, Shaw, Mullet and O'Shea mainly. Pickett, Sumner, Fasolo and Garlett were risk/reward types that failed, and are all small forwards. Lang is current depth. Deluca was a mid-season rookie on a 12 week contract to cover a season-ending injury...

You can shitcan a bunch of these players if you like, but the context of their selection is just as important. Negligible cost, short term contracts, fleshing out the list with every expectation they'd make way sooner rather than later and the onus was on them to step up if they wanted more.

I'm sorry but we shouldn't be trading in players to "flesh out the list". SOS offers these players a contract because he thought they were good enough to play for Carlton. The fact is he was wrong and he must be accountable for that.

This.

SOS has been instrumental in rebuilding this club, and although i was one of the whiners of late when we came away from trade week with only one target met (which apparently wasn't SoS' anyway) I have always had faith in what he has done to get players across to Carlton. A lot of the rubbish posted about his 'failures' (followed by a list of names now gone) have been largely misunderstood in terms of getting deals done, you have to take salary dumps, or bargain basement deals to get the players you really want.

Anyway, as SOAP mentioned, SOS has been, I feel, a rem-anent of the 'Old Carlton' and the Legacy of the Silvagni name still has weight. BUT, you can't have someone calling shots and not having any accountability, as well as being seen as favoring his own boys, whether he is or not.

If true, I'm thinking Cain Liddle's call on Betts' was the right call, but not his call to make. His first Blight.
He is not employed to recruit players and should stay the hell out of it and run the club which he has done pretty well until now.

But I really think the time to 'move-on' will largely be SOS' decision, and probably a good thing before his youngest Son is up as a father Son selection and he is not seen to be playing favorites.

He can leave the club knowing he has done what he set out to do, and done a pretty good job of it too.
Always Dependable.

SOS is the only Carlton person left from our winning culture who embraced modern football. Every role has been successful from stkilda assistant, to GWS list management through to his list rebuild at Carlton. What has teague, lloyd or MLG achieved? Liddle was only Richardson's towel boy at Richmond. Mark my words this is the beginning of the end of the MLG presidency

What’s your assessment of the current list at this point in time?

What is worse, not landing a big fish or paying overs

During the rebuild it was all about value, not overpaying, building in the draft and getting value trades.

Now we need to add what we need, the spine is built and there’s plently of young midfield talent, 9 for Papley was slight overs in what market value is normally for a small forward and that was we offered, there’s not more SOS can do then get the player to nominate us and pay slightly overs in value. No he didn’t land him but that’s better than paying well overs.

SOS is fair at the trade table but unrelenting when he needs to be.

Turning Henderson into McKay, Tom Bell and a second into Curnow, Yarran into Cuningham was absolutely genius. It’s set us up in that draft alone with Wietering and his own first born.

2E and a second for Marchy and Pickett is solid also, but he was desperately unlucky Pickett was too lazy to capitalize on his talent.

Plus the Stocker trade could have been the biggest steal in history if we finished a few sports higher, Stocker could be a serious player and it still be lopsided in our favour.

The sort of lateral thinking in the Stocker trade is why SOS should have the keys and let him run, it’s those calculated risks that I’d rather him and agresta be allowed to take without having to answer to some suit. Even the Marchbank trade, Geelong didn’t know they could trade their first until SOS told them

He has his finger on the pulse.

Our spine is great but that is about it. I reckon next season, we will come second last because we have too many small/mid seized mids. We need some bigger bodies in the midfield to compete for the top 8.
I disagree, but that's totally irrelevant. The point is that you're reason for wanting change at least appears to be based on your own seemingly consistent perception of his performance. I think that's better than some of the other reasons presented so far.

I'm sorry but nobody ever should be in a position at the football club where they don't answer to anyone.
