I find it hard to believe that Liddle could challenge SOS without first having guaranteed support from a faction. Indeed, it is conceivable this might be another putsch to seize control of the board. SOS is MLG's man. Forcing SOS out would inevitably require MLG to put himself on the line and resign. This seems to be what has happened. It will be interesting to see who rises.

MLG is going anyway, it seems like Sayers is already anointed

The only conflicts of interest would be whether to retain Ben at the end of season and whether to draft Tom. This could have been worked through. I think most would suggest Ben deserves another year, on the current evidence. I think that drafting Jack and Ben were the right decisions, so we would assume the right one would have also been made with Tom. Whoever decided that presenting the boys and their management as the main problem should be the one in the firing line. It was pretty obvious that this would open an even bigger can of worms.

It's interesting people focusing on tweets liked by Jack. One of the ones in the snapshot clearly states that MLG gave SOS carte blanche to make list decisions and that liddle didnt think this was appropriate...then went and contacted players behind Silvagnis back.

To me it's clear that the issue again stems from mismanagement by MLG. SOS should have been given a lot of authority in the early years, but that should have been pulled in over time as the team grew/developed and the coaches needs come into play.

Liddle should not have stepped out of his zone and approached players, but SOS shouldn't have thrown his toys out of the cot when the list approach became more consultative - this was a natural progression.

SOS replacement won’t be one of Liddle’s mates..
The club should go into damage control now and the board should get rid of Liddle and Appoint Prendergast before membership suffers too much.
Do you think SOS would accept his job back if Liddle was no longer at the helm?

If what I've heard about SOS's salary is true (more, like A LOT more, than what Bolton was getting paid), then it's perhaps understandable that he's cracked the shits at getting challenged.

If you're at the top of the pay scale it's often difficult to take heed of what others 'beneath' you say.

To be honest I'm getting the sense that SOS has deliberately chosen the 'messy exit' martyr path... A bit of a sneaky "**** you" to the club, knowing how much the supporters love & respect him.

I agree with you, and I think it speaks to the professionalism at play. No-one has handled it well...and it's mostly on MLG for creating this beast, and failing to handle the situation.

MLG needs to step aside....he has shown he has no control or ability to manage these tensions, which is a critical element of the presidency. He let this ego battle blossom, and now it's paying dividends.

I hope so HBF. We need to hold those in charge accountable for this. Horrendous leadership and management all-round.
As long as we don't get bogged down by supporters asking soft questions

SOS was leaving in 12 months anyway.

Liddle hasn't taken charge of every recruiting decision.

This is getting blown way out of proportion by knee-jerk emotional responses.
This is my way of thinking as well. And if what we believe is true, Liddle just wanted SOS to have some accountability when it comes to list management.

I keep saying - It's not what we do but the way we do it.

That's what really annoys me about this club. We keep making a mess of situations that a professional club would have dealt with better.
We aren't as modern as we think we are....or pretend to be.

That is as well put and articulate an anaylsis I have read on this saga in this thread (or anywhere else)

This whole petty fiasco just seems so well petty and unnecessary, even by our standards.

Reverting back to my original stance of not caring anymore, and just wait till this whole thing blows over.

I'll take the little bit of exit mess now......seeing as it comes after 5 years of the power of SOS's personality keeping a FULL rebuild on track to its conclusion.

Gotta take the good with the bad with SOS.

As if MLG wouldn't have tried to get SOS to play better with others lately....but good luck with that.:D

You can't have a stone killer then turn him into a fluffy team player.

I've said it before but SOS and his great mate Ross Lyon are short tenure guys. Fixers. Doer's. But damn they're hard work.

SOS was a great appointment. Just what was needed. But now the Footy Dept needs to be able to breath more and work cohesively.

Is John Blakey responsible for the length and $$$$$ terms of his sons contract? Is he responsible for the length and $$$$ of his sons teammates?

Does Blakey have control over list decisions that that make or break his kids career?

Would list management consult an Blakey an assistant coach with the possible thought of delisting or trading his son?

They are so far from being the same thing.

I beg to differ.

One could argue that Blakey has much more of a conflict than SOS. Blakey Snr is a significant part of team selection (and his sons teammates). Is he compromised at selection meetings? Does he step outside if his son is out of form and may be dropped. Huge conflict. Does Longmire baulk slightly at getting pissed at Blakey Jnr in th box, or when thinking of giving him a spray at quarter time cause his dads there and is also Longmire's right hand man. Dosn Longmire need that extra layer? Plenty of conflict there.

Whilst SOS may have some input into length and $$$ terms of contracts, that wasn't his portfolio. His job was to bring players into the club. It can easily be separated.

The whole club, not just the footy department. Too much ego and infighting. That’s why I think Liddle needs to go now, and we can try and get a clean start.

The sun article I just read mentioned jack and Ben at the end and their playing careers. It mentioned Ben as being a work in progress but one club enquired about him during the trade period. Maybe some wanted to trade him and SOS said no? [emoji1745]

What if a club came to us and offered a second, or even a first for Ben? If it was Macreadie or Goddard, depth bigs in the backline, we would jump at that trade. Does SOS knock it on the head?

I am equally disgraced by the situation but, there is some merit to this part of the conflict.

I just hate the way it was handled publicly. Left to linger too long then masked by a fairly light, veiled statement.

Weird lot some of our supporters...

“An online petition was circulating among Carlton fans calling for Silvagni's reinstatement, which club insiders pointed out had been put forward by a fan who had previously called for Silvagni's removal after the trading period.”

The petition was started by Brett Temple aka Earl's Pearls. Says it all.

Well, clearly, I’ve been too emotionally invested in the club of late. I’ll be sure to temper my connection in future.
I should probably stop pontificating on what the 'intelligent observer' would do.

My apologies, if I've gone too far at times today. Not just to you, to everyone I've spoken with.
