:footy: BRING. IT. ON. :footy:

Presidents and CEOs of the 18 clubs were told Friday morning in an online hook-up of the AFL’s resumption plans, including permission to begin non-contact training next Monday 18 May.
Contact training at clubs will be permitted from Monday 25 May.

The first matches in the new fixture will be released publicly next week.

Great to see footy back but I must admit to still feeling a little hollow about it as the changes will tend to favour the teams entrenched at the top and mkae it bloody hard for a team like the blues.
Moving to everyone playing each other once will mean while the blues lose double up against the Saints, Bulldogs North & Sydney the Tigers lose double up against the Eagles, GWS, Lions and Collingwood.
The loss of the VFL season means that teams like Carlton with numerous spots up for grabs will lose the ability to develop youngsters and bring in match fit players while the top teams with pretty established best 22's and experienced players ready to go will get an advantage. It will also lead to intersting selection questions for Teague and the MC like do we play Wiliamson or Simpson?

Hopefully I will get more exited as it nears but right now I can't help but feel this will be a massive pre-season comp for the blues.

I have a feeling before the season is done fans will be allowed back in.
One thing that concerns me is some states may be able to have fans back before others. That will suck for whatever area of Australia has to watch on and not be able to attend and see a few clubs get genuine home ground crowd advantage at back end of season. Hence why my fingers are crossed we play more away games in coming months than designated home games. Hopefully we play a lot of Vic based clubs as the away team.

You make some excellent points. I had considered the lack of a reserves comp being a real problem, but I honestly hadn’t though about the difficulty of the fixture based on previous ladder position no longer being a factor. We’d always play Rich, Coll & * twice for crowd numbers anyway, so it will hopefully be relatively evened out.
I think the selection dilemmas will be massive for us. Now it will largely be based on AFL form, with only injury or someone bursting down the door at training forcing changes - and potentially matchup based selections.
I am like you - not overly excited about our prospects, but I think these same issues will affect a majority of teams.

We only play Richmond twice out of that lot this year - the other 4 games were all ones we should have been looking to win if we were going to push for finals.

"Now it will largely be based on AFL form" I think that could largely be dependent on who the player is, someone like Dow, Fisher, Cuningham, TDK or Williamson will not have the ability to develop in the 2's so they could be given games regardless of form just so they don't stagnate and are better prepared for 2021.

We actually have the easiest draw from here on.
We've played the best team, in an away game. No one else can say that!
Hopefully they let us in to watch our finals :)

You’re right to have those reservations. It’s going to be tough for developing teams. You certainly want the team playing near capacity (all players contributing) and no injuries.

17 games. What‘s acceptable regarding results. I think 16 at the moment but 7 or 8 would indicate real improvement.

lets do this!

What will our team look like?

Docherty Jones Plowman
Simpson Weitering Newman
Newnes Cripps Walsh
Martin JSoS Cuningham
McGovern Casboult Betts
Pittonet Dow Murphy
Setterfield ECurnow Fisher SPS

Ps. I expect a lot more weekly changes to rotate players as well. Don’t be surprised to see players such as Simmo, Ed rested more with others like Marchbank, Setterfield, TdK, Newnes, Plowman, Newman, etc. rotated reguraly.
