Looks like Trump is finally going after the Chinese in a big way. He tried the softly approach with the trade deal, but it's time to take it to the jugular. Breaking off relations with China would really put them on the back foot. Chances are, we're headed for a war on this and I think Trump will see a few benefits in going early. Another 10 years and China will be out of control and I think a conflict will be good for restructuring the worlds economy - particularly australia - so that it isnt as china dependent. And yes to all the liberals out there, it would be a skyrocket for the trump vote but that happens in any war.

I think a war environment will suit Trump far better than the current one. He is a natural leader of men and i think even the average democrat voter will respond to the challenge put to them and they'll get behind trump. Republican voters have already got their weapons out and they'll be itching to take on china and punish them for the virus stuff.

And it's in times like these, you're happy that the US voted in the right man for the job.

It's interesting what americans find illegal. It appears that it can only happen when something bad is done to an american. You can undermine a country's leader. You can start a war on false pretences, You can do as much "collateral damage" to non-americans that you feel like. You can do pretty much anything, but only if its against a non-american. Why does this remind me of Rome?

Finally. A chance to divorce ourself from the ridiculous contract for an aircraft that isn’t suited to our topography.

Go on Trump, take it all back to the US. And we can then cancel the contract, saving us big bucks just when we need to.

I think ScoMo is right with this one. A lot to still play out and dismantling an international defence supply contract with jobs at stake isn’t likely to be smooth and happen just like that.
Would want to know a bit more about Don’s plan here also. Basic economics to me suggests that having countries specialise in producing certain parts would actually be more efficient for the US rather than producing everything there.

If I was Scomo, I'd flick the current Ambassador to Washington and appoint the following. Influence would skyrocket....

You do know you'd be hauled across the coals if you were a journalist or politician and you made those comments, Markfs? It would be wrong and hypocritical for anyone to do so but you might even lose your job.

Just a side issue but these photos are a classic example of the wanting your cake and eating it syndrome so many female politicians employ. Almost every female politician screams sexism the moment anyone comments on their appearance or suggests they are attractive or compliment their dress sense. Look at Bishop. She has spent hours getting the hair and make up right and in one pic wears a skin tight, figure hugging dress and in the other poses in an almost inappropriate manner on her couch showing off what she clearly believes are her wonderful assets. It is quite cringeworthy. And before someone says she is now retired, she was doing the same thing as a minister in the government.

Can you imagine the scorn which would be hurled down upon any male politician who posed in manner which showed off his bulging biceps as he dug a ditch in his backyard? When Abbott wore Speedos when he swam he was derided and mocked endlessly. I remember when Gillard stabbed Rudd in the back she got a 12 page spread in the Women's Weekly where she appeared in a range of dresses and had her hair prepared for the occasion. I have no problem with that but for the fact that when it suits females they feign shock and horror when anyone in the media or politics dares to comment on their clothes or appearance and brand such observations misogynistic.

It is astonishing the way female politicians harp on the terrible sexism they have to endure in politics when I believe they get a much easier ride than the men.

Male politicians are fair game when it comes to being derided or praised for their physical appearance. Trump, Trudeau, Boris Johnson, Tony Abbott, Russell Hinze and Billy McMahon are just a few that come to mind. It happens all the time and nobody raises an eyebrow. If anyone is surprised by my disgust with double standards in any sphere, they must be a newcomer to this thread. ;)

well if i was a journalist and got sacked for the post, then i could always get a job making up stuff for a Rupert publication.

And we should remember that Julie is no longer a politician so she can do a playboy centrefold if she likes.

I'm not sure if Russ Hinze was mocked for his physical appearance. Maybe more for decisions where a conflict of interest was involved.

As for Julie, I think she would be a hit in washington. She would probably be the centre of attention and get a few invites to the trump mansion, although there could be issues with the mrs. I think it's always good for an outpost of the empire to have ear of the emperor.

As for your comments on sexism, I think most of the screams of sexism have involved none-to-favourable comments and have involved people like Alan Jones who clearly has problems with women. Conservatives, and i think that's why Trump slotted in so nicely, have an interesting relationship with women. As they say, when there's something in the press about stealing money, it normally involves lefties and when it's got to do with adultery or dressing up as a woman, it will be about a conservative.

I heard something profound some years back..... christian women can never aspire to be like Mary (Jesus's mum) because she was both a virgin and a mother. It's unattainable for them. Conservatives always want the stereotypical "mad men" wife.... the perfect face to the public and the whore in bed. I think it's that strong relationship between conservatives and religion that does it.

p.s. I made that mad men reference because i'm watching old episodes now. January Jones. what a babe. I'm sure she would get the Donald's approval and he would probably try one of his "moves" on her.

btw while i'm referring to the Donald and sexual harassment, I was interested that his new press secretary said that he wouldnt have molested those women who complained because they weren't attractive enough for him. LOL. I actually believe her and him. He goes for those blonde big hair types like stormy daniels, his daughter and ........julie

women politicians pose in New Idea. Men pose with footballs. not worth the outrage really, they do what their advisors tell them to do.

i thought julia gillard posed with bulldogs...

on another front, the rupert murdoch vehicle news.com.au outlines some of the theories going around about the virus and many are linked to Trump.

It's a fascinating read although I already knew that Trump has initiated an investigation in the world elites who are seeking to take power and thwart his re-election. I think we're all aware of the connection with 5G but the ties with cannibalism are getting harder to deny as each day passes.

i think that one has a muzzle underneath the mask

evidently he's hoping to continue his job with the next administration....after all he's only 79.

on a serious note, does anyone else think that the age of these american politicians is just ridiculous? Pelosi is about 94. Biden is 98. Trump is making out he's a spring chicken. To think that JFK was roughly 40ish. The biggest joke is that Ronnie Reagan suddenly got Alzheimers a year or two after finishing up. oh yeh sure sure...

If Trump is actually doing as he says, and manufacturing several different untested vaccines, then I’m impressed.
Manufacturing the untested vaccines, in the hope that one will do the job, is the correct thing to do.
When/if one of these is the silver bullet then there will be hundreds of thousand of doses ready to go.
Not a bad thing.

You just don't get it do you? It's not the posing. It's the pretense that they are not at all fussed about their appearance or fashion sense and it is evil for any man to suggest it. Female celebrities do the same thing. They preen and pose in front of anything that resembles a camera in outfits which reveal all and then screech about being objectified. If male politicians accused female journalists or female politicians of sexism when they suggested they were into the footy and then went and posed for a men's magazine in their footy guernsey while kicking a footy, I would say the same about them. Nuance escapes some people.

Yes, I suppose Max Gillies wearing a enormous blow up suit whenever he played the role of Hinze had nothing to do with his size. It was all about his conflicts of interest. Try around the 1:10 mark of this clip. Imagine if someone did that to Joan Kirner or some other obese female politician. Outrage. Stop the presses. Women hating! Body shaming!

i get it but disagree. Not arguing on this one because i am not getting into a big sexist thing

Domus, you are defending privileged white men.
Even if they are body shamed, or worse, unlike women, people of colour, people of not white Anglo Saxon heritage, the privileged white male will sail along without issue.
I know this because I’m a privileged white male.
And I have eyes and ears.

I can see why you're a fan of Trump. As our man Don would say, she is asking for it. She deserves a hand up her dress....

I would like to hear ppls thoughts on this

I think Obamagate is a pretty cool name for it. Obamacare was good but this one is better. The Obamagate moniker shows what Obama did, had a real connection to the type of crimes committed in Watergate. I think that the fact that Trump named it Obamagate rather than Bidengate indicates that he's not using it in a political way for his re-election.

I too was outraged when Gillard had her hair done for a photo shoot. It's not on.

OBAMAGATE!!! Biggest crime in US history.

Today:

"As to president Obama and vice-president Biden, whatever their level of involvement, based on the information I have today, I don't expect Mr Durham's work will lead to a criminal investigation of either man," Barr said, referring to John Durham, the US attorney conducting the investigation.

Trump has stepped up his claims in recent weeks as criticism of his administration's handling of the coronavirus pandemic has mounted. The virus has so far killed more than 88,000 Americans.

Trump will face Biden in the November's presidential election.

Barr added that the election should be decided strictly on policy debates, and that any investigation of a political candidate would need to be approved by him personally.

"We cannot allow this process to be hijacked by efforts to drum up criminal investigations of either candidate," Barr said.

I know this because I’m a privileged white male.
And I have eyes and ears.

Are you seriously suggesting that because my skin is white I won't feel humiliated if I am publicly mocked/ belittled/denigrated for my appearance? What do you mean white males will sail along without an issue? If that's the case why do they kill themselves at four times the rate of women? What issues are they not sailing by without an issue?

We are individuals. Are you suggesting white boys and men don't care about being mocked, bullied or ignored? Are you really saying such treatment has no effect upon them because they are white? Do you have children? Would you tell your son he has no right to feel upset if he is bullied at school because he is white?

As soon as someone uses that word I disregard anything they have to say. What a disgrace. To suggest any demographic is privileged due to the colour of their skin, their genitals or any other immutable characteristic is nothing less than appalling bigotry. I don't care what colour you are. It's funny how often those who rant about racism and sexism are often the people most obsessed with colour and gender.

Your ignorance is astounding. Can you explain to me why men in Western nations receive a 63% longer jail term than women who commit the same crime? The gender prisons sentencing gap is far larger between mean nd women than it is between black and white people.

If white men are so privileged why are the majority of the suicide demographic? Men kill themselves at four times the rate of women. In what twisted world does the privileged demographic kill themselves at nearly four times the rate of the oppressed?

In what world would 75% of the homeless living rough on the streets be males-the privileged gender (and again mostly white).

In what upside down world would the oppressed be graduating from university at a much higher rate then the privileged?

Then these women choose to go into occupations which they are attracted to rather than STEM careers and this is somehow twisted into being the fault of the patriarchy. It is hilarious. They have lowered entry scores for women to try to tempt them into entering STEM courses and their enrolments remain low because most women have no interest in engineering and computer focused occupations. Women dominate veterinary courses. Is this sexist?

Women get four times the health funding that men receive even though men die earlier. How is it possible for the privileged to receive less funding for their health care?

Trust me- I could go on and on. I find talk of white male privilege to be an utter joke.

Yes-I have gone off topic. Ignorance has that affect on me.

Let's see how the game plays out. I thought Barr was a Trump lackey and I recall you shaming him with a reference to his body shape. Now he is the great authority whose words you post with glee! What Obama and Biden have done is without parallel in political history in America. Barr also said they may well have abused their power but not all abuse of power is a criminal offence. You completely ignore what these crooks have done and try to pretend the whole idea of Obama's disgraceful misuse of the FBI and CIA is an invention. Stay tuned.
