Hi!

I am an avid AFL fan who has created a website & tool to try and improve footy whilst we have empty stadiums. I started thinking about doing this back in Round 1 but was quickly demotivated by the termination of the season and all other sports, however it appears we are in for a long period of empty stadiums so for the last few weeks I have been building and testing https://sofacheer.com.

The idea for now is that you watch the game as usual on your TV, and use your laptop or phone to connect to an audio conference with other fans who are watching the same live stream. Our testing so far has been surprisingly good audio quality as long as the live stream and the connection to sofacheer are on different devices, e.g. not using your laptop to stream Kayo & connect to sofacheer together.

Anyway, I am building this for all sports but AFL is my passion so I am most keen to try and get some adoption with this community. I would love to answer any questions and have some constructive discussions here in the lead up to the season restart and the first few rounds back.

Cheers,
Brendan

Hey Brendan,

Cheers to your website and tool! Assuming this is an audio connection live stream sans video? Very cool concept, especially for viewers here in the States to feel connected.

Hi! Yep, at the moment it is just audio to connect fans. You need your own stream to watch the game.

I am curious how it will work with overseas viewers. I assume you are using the WatchAFL app? Maybe the lag will be the same as watching on Kayo domestically.

Haha, thanks but I have my team. If you have a connection to a number of Kangaroos fans who would be interested in getting on Sofa Cheer though let me know! I am trying to get at least one game with a decent sized group on to really test & prove the concept.
