55% voted 4 weeks, Hunter broke 4 different laws could have killed someone and gets the same penalty as Sidebottom.

Deadset he deserved a week, maybe 2 weeks due to the 14 day quarantine apart from that anything more is just unfair.

McGuire was okay in this instance. Defending his player, but not his actions... saying it's a pretty harsh suspension and well done to Sidebottom for copping it sweet. What's wrong with that? Seems okay to me. Not sure why people are getting stuck in. The reason why Collingwood and my club Hawthorn are great clubs is because they support their players. They don't publicly sh*t all over them like some other loser clubs do.

Tony Jones, on the other hand... What a bellend! How does that tool have such a prominent job in the media?
There isn't a person who meets him who doesn't come away thinking "F**k this guy!"

Lol.

I don’t really care what suspension he received but Eddies interview was ****en laughable.

Eddie said he's ok with his actions leading up to getting drunk, got drunk "unintentionally," and then "stuff happened" that was out of his control because he found himself in a situation that many of us have.

If Sidebottom had been found behind a steering wheel would you use the same words Eddie?

He clearly was not in control of his actions because he was blind drunk

Wines got a week for having a socially distant interview at the front of his home.

I just don’t know what Eddie was trying to achieve here but he just sounds loopy, everyone has been under a lot of strain and maybe he needs a break. No matter what he is showing on the outside, inside he’d be seething and bitterly dissapointed.

My interpretation from Eddie is.... so if you go somewhere with the best intentions, have a few to many then you are excused for any poor behaviours that follow.

Just think of all the assaults and domestic violence that have occurred under the same rationale that Ed is giving a free pass to Sidebottom for.

In saying that, what i think Ed is really thinking is that the covid measures are a load of sh*t and i support my player fully.
Ditto a bunch of drunks behind steering wheels at 6am.

Yeah it was a very strange little interview.
And then also saying Steele meant to walk to the toilet but walked outdoors instead by accident :$
Why even say that, it just opens the door for more ridicule.

Haha, are we supposed to believe that SideBottom fell asleep on the couch after drinking scotch, got up to go bathroom and walked through the wrong door out onto the street and ends up in a cop car lol

And Eddie acting like its such a regular explanation, that’s it’s just a normal thing that happens to lots of people.

Cant wait to find out what kind of drugs were involved...

He did it at the wrong time unfortunately. The season is at tipping point hence a penalty twice as much as he probably would have received if he did it a couple of weeks ago. Not fair for him, but he’s taken the punishment well.

Your right, timing has a lot to do with it. That's not unusual with AFL penalties. There was a time when tripping by hand was almost a life ban.

If this was in any other season the sheer magnitude of the indiscretion would warrant a fairly hefty club imposed fine and ban let alone an AFL sanctioned ban one would think.

Now let’s not forget the 3 (that we know of) breaches of AFL COVID-19 protocols. This alone should draw the attention of the AFL’s wrath, infact it puts pressure on the leagues hierarchy to maintain its obligations to its key stakeholders and seriously questions the capability of AFL house to maintain a clean and safe competition in the midst of a pandemic.

You would think Gil and the board would be seething at these breaches without having to add eddies asshat pantomime sideshow. Massive loss of face and integrity.

and

How can he seriously be still considered ok to continue as Vice Captain. Surely leadership comes with some responsibities? Leading by example? Showing a bit of basic common sense? Not getting completely smashed during the season?

You're an idiot mate.

If you had to go to court for drunk and disorderly would the judge say 'well if you were holding a knife and murdered someone' 25 years jail.

He didn't break any laws you turnip

Pretty sure he/she was making the point that being drunk isn’t a valid excuse for poor behaviour.

In the case of your example, the equivalent would be more like if you did hold a knife and murder someone you couldn’t just say you were drunk and expect it to be excused.

Thanks for the personal insult, really appreciate it.

I didn't suggest that he got 4 weeks because of what he could have done, I was criticising Eddie's rationale in defending him. He basically said that he wasn't responsible for his actions after getting drunk.

If you're completely off your nut drunk, wandering around half naked at 6am in 5 degree winter, picked up by the blues, Don't sit there and say that "It's ok, nothing to see here, I'm proud of him".
Notwithstanding the Covid restrictions and the spike in Victoria right now.
