That clean a cut seems extremely unlikely to have been caused by a metal stud.

I remember in high school I would play rugby in the morning - where metal studs where actually mandated - then have to change out for synthetic studs for soccer in the afternoon.

The synthetic studs ALWAYS had sharper edges but this was back in the 90s so I'm sure materials have changed a fair bit.

After initially stating that Wicks was wearing standard issue screw-in studs, it was revealed by AFL reporter Jon Ralph on Fox Footy that the first-gamer had worn a "hybrid" boot which contained "moulded plastic and metal screw-ins".

Older plastic studs can get nicks in them if you've had to run over concrete a bit to get on the ground too. The swans player may not be in the wrong, the AFL definitely need to find out how the injury happened.
I'm surprised seeing the wound when the stretcher was called out that the umps didn't go and check his boots immediately. That's just common sense. The player could feel when it happened and knows what caused it even if video isn't clear and I guess that was enough for Buckley to make an accusation. Although that's not smart, it will be worse if we find out that the umps didn't even check that player's boots after it happened.

Ah....It’s only a flesh wound.

tell me he went back on after.

Going through the footage frame by frame I'm finding it hard to believe the studs caused the injury.

Picture 1: During the chase, maybe it happened here but unlikely.

View attachment 929327
Picture 2: Start of the tackle/drag down the swans right foot impacts the in thigh above the knee.

View attachment 929331
Picture 3: Continuation of picture 2 the foot slides up the inner thigh

View attachment 929333
Picture 4: The right leg is stepping forward while left leg/foot of the swans player is grounded while the pies player is sliding.

View attachment 929334
Picture 5: Maybe it happened from the toes studs of the boot from the swans player left leg, only possible action where the cut could occur.

Picture 6: Swan player is falling down which will flatten the foot where the pies player was sliding and slid onto the sole of the shoe that was facing upwards.

I tend to agree. Replayed the footage multiple times and can't see the boots contacting the area on the shin the injury occurred. His shin actually drags along the surface of the ground for a few metres. I'd suggest it was more likely an object on the surface of the ground as he slid across it. Especially considering the precision cut of the wound.

pretty sure Isaac knew what happened. thats why they were talking about the boots. Why do people think otherwise

Lol, it so clearly happens in pictures 5 and 6 that I can't tell whether you're actually being serious or not...
Settle petal, it's not clearly and not even close. Take off the blind rage goggles because you're emotionally invested.

Think it happened before your first frame, partially obscured by other Swans player.

I was looking at that frame too, I think i capture that in picture 1 because I took the screen shots from the other camera angle.

If you watch it in motion, there is a point (probably in picture 5 o r 6), where it looks like IQ's lower leg moves one way, then back again. There's some sort of contact made between Wicks' boot and IQ's leg. Hard to believe it would slice open the shin like that though.

I thought he'd somehow broken his leg, but even that seemed like an unusual outcome. Never expected this.

Hopefully IQ recovers well without any complications, and Wicks doesn't cop any undeserved blame. Freakish circumstance.
I agree 5 & 6 looks like where it could of happened but he was also sliding for many meters prior to the left leg getting caught. Under the toes there is atleast 4 studs, not 1 other abrasion or mark on IQ's leg next to the cut.

Agree multiple times too, hard to imagine and it could possible be the studs in a freak accident but I would expect atleast some marks or abrasions next to the cut on IQ's leg from the other studs on the boot.

If it's not a banned boot which seems to be the case, for a senior coach to come out and accuse a first game player of cheating is unprofessional and a real shithouse act. Then when called out shrugs his shoulders and says I got told by players they were bad. Nothing would make me happier than seeing this arrogant piece of sh*t end his career with not a Grand Final win to his name.
What more would you expect from Buckley, his team is rubbish his entire club is pathetic and he will spend his entire career never winning a flag..

I reckon here, before the tackle, was when it happened. If it was during the slide surely there’d be a few more stud marks.

I’m shocked that metal studs are banned in the AFL. Nearly everyone in European football wears them and the reason they’re on boots in the first place is because the boots are made for soccer.

I knew they weren’t allowed in juniors but never heard of them being banned in adult competition. This would be so widespread in the AFL.

Nice clear image, better than mine from the AFL website :p
Looks like a frame after my picture 1, could definity be from that action and it could explain the clean cut from the velocity of a running foot and maybe just knicking 1 stud and not seeing mulitple stud marks on the leg.

They are also always required to wear shin guards for this very reason. No reason for metal studs in Australia imo.
