***************************************************

Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

I think the "ITK" posts should be respected no matter what. Over the years there is only one "ITK" poster who has a better than 50% strike rate (no names). The rest have been way off the mark. Mind you, I would assume a lot can change on a daily basis when trades happen so to get it right isn't easy. Take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the banter.

Not true. There have been many who have gotten good information.

Obviously there have been trolls too, and you should be discerning about who and what is posted, but we've had a lot more than 1 reliable poster.

Just one? Several more than that and several that simply reported the state of play in specific areas.

These ITK's as we call them aren't seers. The better ones report what is happening at the time and then we have some that add their views to the matter.
They're the ones that can be seen to have made things up, when things don't play out.

If one can tell the difference, it makes sense.

No matter how much you preach, there is always one who just has a go at the ITK

Both contracted.

As free agents, they might be clever pickups and give a few good years of service.

But with trade cost, I think they would only appeal to premiership-window teams or if there was a hardcore rebuilding team that desperately needed senior bodies.
True. But just remember Hawks let Mitchell go for picks 52,70 and 80. Hawks know when to let go, if one of the 2 really wanted to go I doubt they'd play hardball for them.

If this is true, then we move on quickly.
Still think we need to find a proper small forward rather than turning our mids into small forwards.
Yep I agree.

Fisher is too valuable around the ball than to be stuck in the forward line.

He is a mid capable of 25+ a game.

Good post. There are massive question marks over Dow and O’Brien.
Dow - has the required ability but just needs that penny drop moment. Will it happen?, I think it will. Our supporter base has become so accustom to high draft picks slotting in from day 1 and not deviating from an upward trajectory. Give him time.
O’Brien - I think he was the least contested player to come through the U18s, potentially ever? Clearly has deficiencies but if we can develop him he could be anything. He’s a small boy so needs some time to grow his body.
TDK - if he becomes what he looks like becoming then the above selections don’t matter, albeit it’s frustrating comparing them to the players taken around their picks. We have a future top 5-10 player in this draft, and you only need a handful of them.
Cripps, Weitering, Walsh, C Curnow (please), Setterfield (I’m bullish), TDK (maybe).
Sprinkle a few 10-20 players - McKay, Fisher, Docherty, Martin, SPS (maybe). We don’t need to nail them all, but I think we’ve done pretty well.
Where SoS comes out strong is he created picks by trading players + staring liddle and brisbane down to get martin for nothing. SoS was a terrific disciplined deal maker

It is disappointing that Papley will stay but I think this is not a terrible result. Fisher, Gibbons and Betts have been quite good this year and I certainly don't think the small forward position is as big a hole as it once was for us. The reality is that we are screaming out for midfield depth and that both first round picks must be on the table to bring in elite talent. Cripps, Walsh and Setterfield need immediate help next year. Throw two first round picks out For J Kelly, Macrae, Taranto or hunt someone like a Zach Merrett, Ollie Wines or Josh Dunkley. Organic growth and the draft can only get us so far, we need to go shopping this off season.

Whilst listening to our pregame coverage on the radio - seeing as I was at work for the game - they were discussing the value a player like Burgoyne has at his age, and the merits of resigning these older players.

What they said was that, due to the list decrease and the footy department cap, footy departments have been cut in half; there's less coaches, less time for individuals, less of everything. Having someone like these blokes on the list - who are ready made development coaches - can be an alternative for sides that have a coterie of players that need it, and it probably works out pretty well in terms of pure financials provided they're still playing at an acceptable standard.

I will never poo-poo having more on-field leadership.

But....I am also mindful that I don't want to get around scarce valuable football department spend by using up scarce salary cap and draft pick resources...

Have you stopped to consider that he may be reincarnated in, say for example, Ricky Mott? That poster has spirit. I like him.

From memory, EP usually posted shorter and sharper than the great 19-game backup ruckman.

Plus eric did his best work around (and post) trade week rather than in-season.

Apparently Carlton have been talking to Allen Christensen don’t know if his name has been brought up before. Source his brother

Very much the type of player we need.

Well, at least on-field....

Sam Mitchell was 34yo, had 1-2 seasons left and was not going to be around when Hawks next contended.

Mitchell (and Jordan Lewis) were flat out salary cap dumps needed to afford O'Meara and T Mitchell.

I can't see Bruest and/or Gunston being let go in a similar firesale.

Ok, but I sense that Ricky may be deliberately changing his MO to throw us all off his trail.

I think we desperately need Ockhams razor here; both in terms of principle and poster content.... ;)
