Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Well the Teague Train has officially derailed. McGovern to play this weekend. Betts to get another year. Simpson told to retire by Teague. Some very worried board members asking questions to the panel who selected the Teague Train.

MLo was on the coaching selection panel.

I DGAF if Bugs Bunny is the head of recruitment. I just want a rule that says the only players we trade for or take from other clubs are best 22 on day 1. Not in a year after an ACL, not possibly someday based on "potential" & not because they kicked 4 goals against us one time.

Drafting is different of course.
pretty much Setterfield, except he never kicked 4 against us because he did his ACL and wasn’t in the best 22...

Pittonet wasn’t best 22 and he’s a great pickup for us, could be a reliable backup ruck to TDK for the next decade.

Martin apparently wasn’t best 22 at the end of last year.

Hell of a lot of stink being kicked up about Eddie and Mitch right now, they were both best 22 and I’m sure had some great games against us.

What if we could have gone for Rankine or Max King at the end of last year? Or Caldwell this year.

Your ‘rule‘ is so simplistic and naive it’s downright stupid, plus it automatically makes over 50% of the player pool ineligible.

If you’re aiming to bring in ready-to-go mature talent then sure, you’re probably aiming for players that would be at least best 22, maybe even top 5/10/15. But you don’t ignore anyone else just because you want a high profile name coming in during trade period so Terry Wallace will give us an All grade...

it’s not so much an obsession with private school kids but instead, the private schools are taking all the footy talent from local footy.
There are countless leagues where the teams from u12 and above are simply not competitive because all the better kids have been snapped up by the private schools, and it’s not just the Brighton, Caulfield Grammars or Xaviers and Scotches either. Every school with a footy team is looking for local players.
Its become more of a thing in the last decade.
It’s not an obsession with private school kids, it just means some of recruiters job has already been done.
That's a fair call.

Dodo aint jumping at the chance to take Cuningham and a pick worse than the two firsts he was reputedly offered last year for Daniher
We won't be giving up a first plus Cuningham for a 30 game player in Daicos
Collingwood have already lodged the signed paperwork and put the announcement on their website
A Daicos at Carlton, what next, Silvagni in B & W?

Interested to know when Teague told Simpson to retire ??
Also wondering that, if true. In the Roundtable clip on the club website earlier this week Gibbs said Simmo told him when he called Simmo to tell him he’s retiring. So either Teague told him to retire at least a week ago, which I personally think is unlikely, or he had already made the call...

Think it's a mistake giving Betts another year, not so much for the money, more for the list spot and especially given there will be no improvement, just more decline

I‘m hoping that the contract is smallish and mentorship to the other small forwards is a key part of the reasoning and potentially he won’t play every game.

It’s time to cut the cord with the older players.
Unleash the younger players.
No need for a safety net with where our list is now at while adding a couple of good recruits.
But hey, what do I know. I’m just some goose on an iPhone punching away.

Tell me about it.....

Exactly what I was thinking and interesting that there is no response to my post which might up blow the my bullshit meter....

I’d like to assume that the Betts 1-yr deal is very similar to the Burgoyne one - no guarantee of playing, but kept on as coach/mentor as it’s easier to fit the contract in the TPP than the soft cap.
If this is the case, I don’t have an issue with it.
I’m hopeful of two things: that either via trade/FA/draft we have players on the list who make it impossible to keep them out of the best 22, and - most importantly - Teague and the match committee can make the tough selection call when it is needed.
The continual selection of McGovern shows a real lack of impartiality. You can tell me about how Gov “straightens us up” or has “amazing leading patterns,” but I cannot see how his spot in the team is justified. Smacks of double standards to me.
Hoping that the off/pre-season is an opportunity for a clean slate at the selection table - no more favouritism, no more blinkers.

I wouldnt be so disappointed of Simmo being told to retire if Betts was told as well.

Unfortunately its looking like Betts is going around again despite arguably less output than Simmo, bit puzzling.
Like Daisy the year before, it’s as much about the other options on the list.

Non-KPP players we’ve got Doc, Marchbank, Plow, Williamson, Newman, SPS if he doesn’t move up the ground, Kemp might start his career at halfback, potential that we land a Williams, Saad, Witherden or someone else who plays out of the back half.

While I’m not super excited about him going on, I’m not disappointed either and I realise we don’t have that same situation up forward like we do down back.
There’s every chance Eddie is not going to play every game possible and takes over a bit of forward coaching duties.
