Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

It's a nuisance.

He's a liability down forward, he's probably capable down back but out KPD stocks are stacked, it would force someone like Marchy in a trade. As there's no room for Weitering, Marchy, Jones and Plow all back there.

Silly list management picking up Gov was.

Jones is 30 next year and not sure if the kamikaze football approach will bring forward his retirement. Marchy can't even get out on the park. Assuming a fully fit side, you can definitely make the case that McGovern is surplus, but we have never had a season with a clean bill of health. Levi is 31 next year too. McGovern is at the age and has the right "size" to be an asset, but his form needs to justify his selection, so I'd say next year will be the telling factor if he stays on.

Brackets stays.

In 2017 Shiel speculated that if he moved from GWS it would likely be to Carlton (his family’s club). By 2018, we enquired and he was initially very interested. Partner, teammate and $ issues got him to Essendon. He wouldn’t be reflecting on that decision well!

Throughout 2019, Coniglio was very very keen to move to Carlton (also a team he once supported). By crunch time in trade week, the AFL, starry-eyed loyalty, and an ability to have great leverage at the Giants captaincy/staffing input, he stayed at GWS. They are not reflecting on that decision well!

Now in 2020, 3 key midfielders have expressed interest in the Blues (2 Dees. 1 Power), 3 halfback flankers (1 Giant, 1 Bomber, 1 Eagle) and a small Swans forward.

One of each section position would be ideal. Hopefully we are much more succesful this time - indications are that:

More players are seriously seeking us out.
More players are on the move.

If they come to Carlton in 2021 they’ll reflect on their decisions well!
Good on you R.B.
Nice to read your intel.

So people here are saying Betts shouldn’t go on another year and if we’re basing it on just footy I’d tend to agree however he did play a big part in securing Jack Martin and if what we’re reading is true he may also play a part in Williams decision. So if he does land us those two because of his influence I’m for him going on.

Sure, just not in an on field role.

The latest rumour file is tempting me back on the rollercoaster.
One does not like the rollercoaster.
It doe not end well if it comes off the rails like 2019.

Jones is super fit and strong, natural athlete. Has at least three quality seasons left.

I actually feel like Jones is still very underrated by our supporters, his % of one-on-one contest wins is by far number one of every KPD in the AFL. In fact he is number one in almost every statistic for key defenders.

The guys a gun. If his name was anything but Jones those praises would be higher. Much higher.

Too much logic for this place.

please no.

I think he would be a good fit for us for a number of reasons.
Fills a need on variety of reasons, would be a good mentor to some of our kids, and comes from Hawthorn.
Lions have done well with Hodge and now Birchall.

Narkle over Saad. Been watching a few youtube clips and some old matches. Much better by foot, can play inside, and knows wheres the goals are. Theres a lot to like about Narkle as opposed to Adam "spray and pray" Saad.

Why not both.....

To be devil's advocate for a second... to those getting amped up about getting Kelly and Williams from the Giants;

Have these blokes been able to get it done in big games in what is a better midfield than ours?
Is the rest of the Giants list better or worse than ours?
Are they better coached than us?

Not saying they aren't really good players, but they are certainly not the silver bullet that rockets us to the GF. Most of that has to come internally, from what we already have. I think our ability to do that remains to be seen. Our biggest issues moving forward are our defensive work and stopping runs against us, which go a little hand in hand. Kelly and Williams (offensive types) are certainly not aiding us in that area...

He has been absolutely vital since his move down back. Yes, prone to the occasional brain fade, but I'd hate to see our losing margins if Jones ended up delisted. He puts his body on the line in contests and flies over packs to spoil etc - all the things you love to see in a player, but also the types of actions that can give you a long stint on the sideline. I love the way he goes about it and that's what makes Jones-Weiters a nice combo.

One more year for Betts isn't a huge issue. Regardless of whether he's a factor in Williams or not.

Our small forward stocks are lean, and those we do have are still very raw and/or new to the role.

The kicker for me is how many games Betts plays next year. I think we need a rotation policy with him, he should only play 8-12 games, with an expectation that he's doing a heap of work during the week to groom his successor. He's a very selfless person, is Eddie, so I suspect he'd be incredibly happy to see someone like Honey go past him over the course of next season.

You know what, **** it, lets make SPS a small forward. Keep him within 25m of goal and his short kicking game isn't an issue. He's got clean hands, is great in traffic, and can lay a tackle (even if the HBF role has afforded him less opportunity to do so this year). You also don't have to worry about him flying for marks and getting in the way of the big boys - he'll happily sit front and centre.

Make him Eddie's project over the summer. Reckon SPS, Martin and Fisher would be a real handful up there.

Martin, McKay, *****
SPS, Curnow, Fisher

One spot left for a utility or mid rotation pending form and list balance - Cunners, Gov, Newnes, JSOS, Levi, Gibbons etc.

Neither of them give GWS what GWS lack - which is heart & soul, grunt, and team spirit.

They would give Carlton what we lack - experience, accumulation, pace and quality disposal.

Kelly no, but I feel like Williams is a bit of a grunt player despite his eye-catching style. Tough nut who cracks in.

This is the it!!!! Nailed it.
JSoS is the player you add to this mixture. 3rd tall.
Done, with rotations as needed.

Why? I'm sure the 17 other clubs want him in charge as long as possible, so he makes their lives difficult every now and then but he's making all of their lives easier more often by keeping Essendon sh*t house.

There's an entire thread on the main board detailing the Dodo's shitness.
