Just like to thank Aphrodite and the other Carlton mods who started the Bluemours NON Discussion Thread and who have kept it free of chat over the past few years.

It helps so much when you just don't have the time to read through this thread, cheers and great job.

Not saying you are wrong, but google says he is out of contract at end of 2020. [emoji2369]

I'm confused

This suggests 2023

... the Blues ultimately landed Setterfield and Mitch McGovern on four- and five-year deals, respectively.

Mitch McGovern – 2023

I'd like to think that if Norf have also talked with Saad's management, and they could mention PSD, that could help shake things loose... I'd be happy if we just got Williams... If any other such as Saad or Graham, I'll be very happy... With Charlie and Newman back next year, plus addition of Kemp, and at least one other player making the jump, I'm not so down on next year's prospects...

I’d also hope that Dodo has learned from his mistake and won’t risk losing another player for nothing purely due to arrogance on his part. Daniher looks all but gone, so instead of 2 top 10 picks they keep Joe for a handful of blah games and will likely lose him for the FA compensation.
I like the internal improvement with the players you mention, but I do think we are a few more pieces away. As much as it has all been said before, if we look at Brisbane as a guide we need to have not only our equivalent of Neale, but also our Hodge and our McCarthy. The veteran presence who has won big games, and the player who just needs an opportunity to show his value. I don’t know who those players are - but I do think we need to be adventurous with our acquisitions. A ready made player or two, plus some veteran leadership and a flyer on a fringe player from a good team.

Contracted until end of 2023.

This confusing, the only mention i can find re his contract is that some places, like GuesSen, are saying it ends in 2020. Others say 2021.

Can you post a link to the 2023 source? Theres isnt a lot that i can find online on the subject

Edit: nevermind. Can see youve posted links since then

Extended his contract with Adelaide until end 2020 before requesting a trade to us.

Contracted until end of 2023!

I would argue that our biggest issue is conserving possession, whether going forward or down back. And attack is its own form of defence.

Kelly and Williams would provide speed, accumulation, and transition; they make us so much better it is positively an outrageous statement you're making here. Would we concede so many of these 5 goal runs if instead of going through these periods of games in which we pepper the forward half with ball and dominating proceedings without scoring, we've the players to turn that from a goalless term into a 2-3 goal quarter, minimum?

You're being extremely hyperbolic suggesting my posts are 'positively outrageous'. Way, way over the top.

I'm not arguing at all that they don't make us a better side (mostly) and accept that they are very good players. I just don't see either of them addressing our needs for players that run both ways, tackle well and add defensive pressure. Perhaps a game plan/coaching structure that stops us hemorrhaging goals in a row needs to happen, but we also need some players that aren't purely offensively minded and can't tackle. Our extremely thin midfield benefits from having those guys 100%, but they do **** all for us from a defensive, two way stand point when the chips are down.

I think our first priority should be finding some like a Mitch Duncan (not him obvs, because he ain't leaving) who goes inside and out, who can flick a switch a actually be accountable. We need a more talented Ed Curnow. At the moment, our best is probably top 6 but our worst, which is usually for a whole quarter, is bottom 2.

Our problem (in my opinion) has more to do with those patches which precede our 5 goal concessions than they do the concessions themselves. In general - when they happen outside of the first term and the first 5 goals of a game - they tend towards occurring after we've peppered the front half with the ball without scoring, largely due to poor disposal and a lack of structure or plan on transition after effecting the turnover. We work our arses off to score for 10 minutes, only for it to ping down the other end and for it to happen easily for the opposition. Think of it mentally; you've worked so hard for zero effect, and then your opposition do it easy. Is it any wonder some of the team drop their heads?

If we kick 2-4 goals in those periods of dominance - and, let's face it, we tend towards doing this when we're in front - then we break the game open, either by extending the lead from significant to insurmountable or by reducing a margin to a beatable amount.

I want us to get value for our dominance, when we have possession and significant time in half. This is assisted more by adding offensive players with good disposal than it is two way runners with workman's ethics and defensive chops. Part of the problem I have with what you're saying isn't that it's undesirable (I'd ****ing love it if we recruited Duncan, Hardwick, Prestia, the quality mids who run both ways) but with the fact that it simply isn't how we look to play the game. We're a time in possession side, a side whose indicators are less tackling and pressure numbers than time in possession and scoring efficiency.
