Righto.

Freo had picks 7 and 8 in last year's draft, and then a few later picks.

They took Serong and Young with their first two picks. Then we bid on Liam Henry (their Academy player) at Pick 9.

Pick 9 is worth 1469pts on the draft index.

Freo are able to match the bid using later picks.

They get a 20% discount on the original pick value as well.

So they needed to cough up 1175pts worth of picks.

They only had 910pts worth of picks, and so carry over a 265pt deficit on their first round pick this year.

Pick 7 (1644pts) minus 265pts = 1379pts. Not enough to get them Pick 10 (1395pts) so they get 11 instead. All the clubs with picks from 8-11 move up one spot to accommodate.

Gotta love the reasons managers come up with - just be honest and say he has or is fielding offers from other teams and doesnt want to play for GWS anymore.

Brad Hill is always the best - wants to move home for family reasons (not the massive deal from Freo) - then wants to move to Vic because of girlfriends family (not the massive deal from St Kilda)
