Caloundra have been spanked by Pumas the last few years when it has aligned with indigenous round. Would have been breathing a sigh of relief that it didn't this year..... and then Rhan Hooper goes and plays his 100th this weekend instead...

Unfortunately we didnt doo the job for Rhan going down in a pretty brusing affair. We were in front at the long break and Caloundra dominated the 3rd quarter with our old mate DZUFER dominating the third quarter across wing and half back. Springwood had their chances in the late stages to try and pull it out of the fire however mistakes crept in and Caloundra took a number of intercept marks with our forward entries going away from where they were early in the game. Caloundra have a fair side and although disappointed with the loss quite aware that we are around the mark once again. A few injuries in the game late also hurts but have to bounce back against the BUFFS which will be no easy task with the Season looking very competitive across the board. Caloundra lost no friends with forming a guard of honour with the Pumas players for HOOPS 100th which was greatly appreciated by all.

Good people at Caloundra, Bulldogs - doesn't surprise me they did that. The pres, footy ops manager and coach are all ripping blokes as are the playing group. It would have been sorted prior to match win, lose or draw. I know there has always been a great level of respect bn the 2 clubs over the past few years and blokes like Rhan deserve accolades from the footy community, not just the Springwood footy club imo.
And it doesn't take much to create good will - imo its what local footy should be about, its not sheep stations.

Yeah div 1 probably going to be among a race in 5 but it will be a good race.

Yes all true mate looks as though Mayne have picked up a lot of blokes from down South as well so cant afford too many slip ups along the way but a long year and you cant take anyone lightly can you.

Tips for this week.
Springwood over Beenleigh by 21 points, although bit of an upset possibility here, looks like Springwood is missing a few key blokes.
Caloundra over Aspley by 65 points
Mayne over Coorparoo by 16 Points in what should be a cracker.

Springwood with a good win over Beenleigh yesterday, hell of a lot of young talent on that Beenleigh team though, very sharp skills as well for a young team.

Caloundra accounting for Aspley is no surprise really, but the margin to me indicates Aspley definitely won’t be as much a pushover as I had originally thought this year.

Surprised that Coorparoo beat Mayne, came back from a big margin as well. Looks like this should be a very good comp.

Although in my opinion it’s gonna probably come down to 4 in Springwood, Caloundra, Coorparoo and Mayne, if any of UQ, Beenleigh or Aspley are on their day anyone will have a chance of being beaten this year. Which is a nice change of pace from the previous years when Noosa and Maroochydore were involved in this comp.

Beenleigh moved the ball well yesterday and we got over the line with some experienced players standing up when it counted. We had four out 3 away and one injured which was Hooper and four young blokes came in an acquitted themselves very well. The Buffs will get a scalp sooner rather than later and use the Dauth Park space extremely well. It was a great day yesterday and congratulations to Beenleigh footy Club with the Anzac day traditions and presentation of the perpetual trophy after the game. No team should take them lightly this year or any other side just quietly.

And Springwoods UQ curse strikes again. Geez they have had some troubles beating them over the last few seasons. What is it that seems to lift the uni lads against the pumas?

Yes they definitely have had their fair share of UQ troubles over the years which is surprising. Will be interesting to see how they bounce back against Aspley next week. Looked Like some low close scores in the other games. Assuming because of the weather? Looks like a great comp ahead though. If you’re not on your game in this comp anyone can beat you.

Weather was not a factor in this games only rained for about 10 minutes of the game in the second quarter and the ground dry and windy. Uni got out of the blokes quickly and kicked 5.8 in the first quarter and we played catch up all day and could have pinched it late but poor decisions by foot hurt us at vital times. Springwood are better than that and have to clean up some areas of the game and play 4 solid quarters which we have not done all year, with Coorparoo possibly the closest. Uni have some good players and blokes like THOMSON who has been on a VFL list give them a bit more depth around the ball. They will trouble any side if you are slightly off in areas of your game. Having best 22 for Springwood on the ground at once might help with 3 of our best missing with minor injuries against Uni. No excuses take nothing away from Uni they have beaten us at home 3 times in recent years and they are the bogey side that seem to save their best for our clashes.

UQ have 5 or 6 very handy players, drops off quickly after that.

If those blokes have a good day, then look out. Pershouse, Ashby, Thompson, Randone all very capable players who would play QAFL at most clubs.

Don’t forget their skipper, J.Williams. Racks em up and hits the scoreboard consistently. Will be surprised if the Buffs don’t drop a hard tag this week.

Tough tips for this weekend.

Think Beenleigh get over Uni by 17 Points, will be interesting to see if Uni can hold their form from last week.

Caloundra over Coorparoo by 8 Points, should be an absolute cracker of a game up there.

Springwood over Aspley by 27 points, think that the Pumas bounce back this week however they have shown to be quite inconsistent in the past so if they’re no careful Aspley will be liking their chances.

Big day at Carter Park - lfavourite son Quinten Ross will be playing his 250th senior game of footy. Been at the footy club since he was 8 years old. Love to see the Panthers get a win for him. Thats alot of footy for a local fella and he still holds his own.

Congratulations to Beenleigh finally getting the W. Division 1 is proving to be even and the most balanced, not a great deal between all teams
Definitely agree, gonna have to be at your best every game against every team in this competition otherwise you’re at risk of being beaten. With Noosa gone definitely think that this comp is the most even from top to bottom. Not a whole lot between 1-7.

Bulldog you sound like you in the know at Springwood. Any truth in the rumours that they have to vacate their premises at end of year due to a new development?

I know they were hoping for a new facility on the failed Logan Greyhound site but apparently that is now off the table?

Just that I heard they may be moved to Springwood High School next year?

Do you know anything about that?

not in the know at all but would be super surprised given council's just pitched in a fair chunk to get fencing upgraded which i can't remember having ever happened there before? maybe once in the last 25 years?
