This is a must watch

Poor bloke has been through hell and to an extent is still there.

Doesn’t sound like he’s given up on the basis that he doesn’t want to pull the pin without knowing he’s given it everything he has to make it back. Unfortunately there’s no guarantee he will

I’m sure everyone here will be hoping he recovers to be symptom free at a minimum and if he returns to football it’ll be a day to cherish.

Good luck Venners and we’ll truly applaud what you have overcome when next you run out onto Optus stadium in the wings

Firstly i applaud him for being such a resilient and tough young man persevering with his dream.

However as he spoke about the pressure that still exists to this day at the front of his forehead i seriously doubt any medical board would feel comfortable ticking off on him to return to a contact sport. I hope i'm truly wrong for him, for us and for the club but they will no doubt err on the side of caution as the ramifications for getting it wrong could be catastrophic.

I hope he gets the result he truly wants but most of all i pray his life moving forward will be one without long term side affects and pain.

He is and always will be a West Coast Eagle. #18 💛💙💛

He spoke so well for someone who has been through what he has, I really want him to be able to play again. But I can't see them recommending that he does, so the decision will be his...

I hope he retires for his own sake.

No one can take his premiership medal away from him. Eagle for life.

Couldn't agree more !

I'd much rather see him happy at a 20 year premiership reunion than risking himself in the blue and gold again

He's given enough of himself

Kudos to Steve Bandy as well - wasn't sure he'd ask the very direct questions

But he asked the ones I think we all wanted to know.

Every WC fan (and I assume footy fan) just wants the lad to be healthy

That was a wonderful interview.

I hope he gets back and can play again.
I heard Luke Shuey talking about him at training a month ago, saying he has looked
almost the best player at the club in all the drills that are non contact, and if he can get back we will
have a very good midfielder on our hands.

Good luck kid

Sounds like he loves being around footy clubs. Hopefully if he can’t get back his resilience and persistence would catch the eye of the Eagles or another club to get him an off field role.

Fingers crossed he makes a full recovery but not sure if it'd even be worth risking given how long he's suffered symptoms for, would be devastating if it were to start all over again.

Really makes ya wonder what might've been if we'd had him and rioli in the side in the last 2 years.

I said in a thread 3 years ago he’d be our best midfielder by the time he got to 100 games. He was progressing well. I still stand by that.

Really hope that we can see him at AFL level. But if that doesn’t happen- really hope that we can get him healthy enough to be able to have a life post footy. A nice reminder of the risks guys take every time they take the field- you’re really only one knock away a serious life changing event.

Go well Venners. Hope you get the chance to get back properly.

Definitely had the tools, feel like his skill has been downplayed by many. Was always clean with ball in hand, made good decisions and pressured well. Obviously had production and consistency issues but most young players do, and he'd missed a lot of junior footy and his first season with us due to injury. Would've been exactly the kind of player we lack in the middle at the moment had he continued developing.

I can understand his reluctance to give up on his dream (and probably assumed career from the age of 15 or so), but I hope he isn't jeopardising his health.

I can't recall seeing an AFL player interview that felt that honest and really, conversational.

Seems like a quality young man, who's self aware, honest and has been resilient in the face of some serious adversity. I wish him all the best and I'm proud of him and also the club for being such an inclusive, supportive environment, that he wants to return to, even though he isn't from WA. Speaks well of both.

It'd be terrible loss for the club to lose him, but I'd hope he does retire. He's been through a lot since the incident and you'd think any further damage would only be worse.
What the interview brings up for me is the last match that Brad Ebert played for Port. Do not want to see that for another player. Long-term health > footy.

I think this interview is a much watch - not just for fans of WC - but for those who are struggling & need some confirmation that there are others who are doing it tough. It's also probably a good reminder that football when all is said and done, is really just a game.

For a young boy to have his dream (& to a certain extent his workplace) taken away, its really a shattering reality. It's really hard for those outside to realize just how all encompassing this is.

Daniel is such a lovely young man & I can tell you there has been many a tear shed along the journey, not only by the playing group, but in the whole club.
