Probably won't stay on in the long talked about mentor/leadership role post career.Well, he's a good chance to finish up this year anyway
He did very well at the Crows. Sydney's form this year is no fluke.Maybe, but Don Pyke comes from impeccable stock. His late father pioneered academic physical education studies in WA. His course drew in David Parkin (who coached Subiaco while in Perth), Brian Cook (ex WCE and Geelong) and Trevor Nisbett (long-standing WCE CEO)
Brett Burton and Andrew Fagan were worse at Adelaide in 2017.
interesting anyway. . .

Question would be, Pyke as Senior Coach or a senior assistant to Teague for 2022
Covers all bases
If it's a replacement, prefer Brad Scott
Sick and tired of people bullying quiz masters off the site. If you think their clues are total crap, just ignore them. So much bullying.Dont be Pykers good people....................
Sydney's form is more about excellent drafting than Pyke. The kids they recruited came in on day 1 and made the team a whole lot better.
Kudos to Pyke he has added a more attacking element to an already rock solid game plan.
CB
You'd wonder why he'd move states after only a year with the Swans to assume the same role in Melbourne. If there is substance to the rumour I would think it's for the senior gig. Could Teague step down and become assistant? Would be a first but I get the impression Teague's ego wouldn't get in the way.Question would be, Pyke as Senior Coach or a senior assistant to Teague for 2022

Malthouse returns? Woooooooooocould involve what some would say is a ‘backflip’
..
Don’t really want Lyon as head coach purely for his boring and defensive style
Freo averaged 88 or so in 2012, 93 in 2013 and 92 in 2014.This is the most overblown take out there.
Ask the Saints players how defensive Lyon's gameplan is when they averaged close to 100 points per game.
Ross only really went defensive when he lacked the cattle to outgun opposition teams. He then went defensive because he recognised it gave his teams the greatest likelihood of winning.
Give me the best, most adaptable, coach available. If that's Teague then it's Teague. If that's Ross then give me Ross.
Cue ferrisbWhy does no body repost rumours in the Rumour thread? This thread sometimes goes too fast and I miss the juicy goodness.
So Pyke … he’ll have the players singing our own theme song all pre season …
Percentage won't go up because team doesn't know how to put the foot down.No-where else really to post this, but it is quickly becoming apparent just how much of a lost opportunity this season is. We started behind the 8-ball, haven't got our team fit or our structures right, and managed to go 0-9 vs the good teams in the comp despite having some really great chances to knock them off.
Yet now looking at the ladder, as of this weekend it's likely Freo will be in 8th spot on 8-8 with a % of 97. West Coast will be 7th on a very shaky 9-7 and 95%
Incredibly, our season still isn't done. 11-11 and a percentage of 105 will potentially get a finals spot. We have games against Collingwood, North and GC (in Melbourne) that should be easy wins. We then play St Kilda and GWS (in Melb) and wins in both of those would likely put us into 8th IMO. Port is the other match, and we go generally have a good crack against them.
And yet... we all know it won't happen. We'll probably lose to Collingwood this week then end up playing out the chain to avoid the bottom 4. If we win that, we'll drop the game against St Kilda in 3 weeks. Our record in winnable games when aiming for 3 wins in a row is (if I remember correctly) roughly 0-328 over the past decade and I can already see our half-time scoreline of 2.13 vs 6.2 in that match from here.
Just looking back, had we shown up for the season on time and beaten Collingwood in round 2, then managed to eke out two wins from the winnable games we had: WCE (neutral venue), Port (in Melb), Bris (in Melb), Geelong (in Melb), GWS (in Sydney but shaky as anything), Sydney (in Sydney, but young and shaky), or even Richmond (shaky all year) the narrative would just be so, so different. We would be in 7th spot with a tail-wind on the run home, and feasibly lining up against Port in round 22 with a TOP 4 SPOT on the line.
And really, the only difference from that reality to our current one is a) showing up to the season fit, on time, and ready enough to actually play well in rounds 1-2, and b) not crapping the bed every single time we have a winnable game against a good team. Seriously - the talent is there. The gameplan and structures have been there. We just don't show up when it matters.
It means this is probably the third biggest waste of a year in my lifetime. The only two I can remember as worse are:
- 1994. Top 4 spot, completely crapped our pants in the finals for a straight sets exit, including losing to Geelong's reserves team
- 2012. Top of the ladder after 3 rounds and playing exhilirating football. A couple of early injuries against the Dank Bombers and we collapsed mentally and finished on 11-11, sacked Ratten, and pretty much imploded as a club.
These wasted years are club-defining IMO. Once in my lifetime we looked inward, learnt and grew, and steam-rolled teh competition for a flag the following year. Once, we imploded, looked outward, and haven't recovered since. I know there is a review on, but so, so much here sits on the coaching staff IMO. Teague is an excellent (imo) tactical coach. But that's not what coaching is about - that's the easy part. Preparation, motivation, mindset - those are the hard parts of coaching, and we've crapped teh bed in all those areas this year. I just hope we can emulate 1995 rather than 2012...
