I don't think we sweeten pick 5. I think pick 5 along with something coming back to us is fair. Something that values Cerra somewhere between 7 and 12.

Playing devils advocate he is worth more now than he was then as a speculative unproven pick 5.

Why would Freo take less now he is a proven v good player?

The more we have to throw at Clarkson to “change his mind” about taking a break the more i dislike getting him.

Because the motivation is all wrong.

money is important but it should be secondary.
I don't think that Clarko halfarses things. If he's in, you've got him; the only reason he's not still at Hawthorn is because Mitchell/the playing group wanted the clean break. He's loyal, and he'd work hard regardless of what he's getting paid.

Freo will demand our first because they know that after a bit of chest puffing, Austin will bend over and take it...
Once you've shown the football world you cave in they will come running to bend you over too...

Everyone balking at the potential cost of Cerra need to look at perhaps the most comparable trade in recent times. Adam Treloar 22yo in 2015, going home for Collingwoods 2015 and 2016 first rounders plus pick 62 for Treloar and a mid second rounder.
Everyone: "We need more quality mids"
Cerra: "I'm a quality mid, I'm willing to sign for less at the Blues, you just need to give Fremantle a fair trade"
Everyone: *boos*

I did use the word "desperate" and * were re Shiel. And that is what you have just highlighted so thanks for understanding and agreeing with me.

And as for Dunkley, what did the dogs want in picks? Did it get that far? Not sure * would have liked parking with 1 of their 1sts or even 2 of them now would they...

They were happy to part with a first, dogs wanted two firsts (both likely to be top 10 picks based on essendons perceived ladder position).

I agree that you need to be willing to walk away rather then getting ripped off. I wouldn't pay two firsts for Cerra for example. However, if we were to try and split our pick 5 and trade a later first round pick for cerra, that wouldn't be us trying to not get ripped off, we would be lowballing Freo. Pick 5 plus a little extra is more then fair.

I don’t like this rule. Gives wealthy clubs an unfair advantage.
Worry about that when the draw is even. Or when every team has the same number of listed players.

So much inequity in the league and you are worried about the ONE thing that MAY tilt the ledger in our favour a little?

I reckon it's is so far out of whack that this doesn't even begin level it.

Please.

Either a bitter person or a bit of a turkey....

The surname Cerra is derived from the Italian word cerro, which means bitter or Turkey oak
Surely worth less at the trade table then

Though Caro has got a lot right in this saga, and the CFC connection was there from a long time ago, I reckon early on in the season. “Clarko to Carlton won’t go away”.

Cerra is easily worth a 1st, so paying that, isn't bending over

Although, I suspect we will offer a up a player and exchanging of picks

Moot point anyway after this year cos if it's used to land a Clarkson you'd reckon the AFL changes the penalty quick smart to include premiership points

I agree in principle.. I think the main difference is that with draft picks, it's all one way.. one party is in total control over who they draft.. No-one else has a say.
When a trade is involved, it blows out to multiple parties, the club, the player, the destination club, the otherinterested clubs waiting to see what happens etc. This i think makes it difficult to always get true worth.
Would I pony up pick 5 in a swap? Yes
Would Freo accept pick 5? Probably.
Will Carlton want something back, no matter how small, that values him around 7-12? I hope so.

Either way, it will make for another interesting trade period.

He has a huge work ethic and is a career senior coach.

He just has to determine if this is the right role for him, but his coaching this year with the players he has had available has been exceptional. Missed 2 of their best (Sicily, Gunston) and managed stay competitive.
