For those suggesting SPS be traded for Brander, he can be obtained as a DFA

I think the reports regarding Brander were poor from the journalist, West Coast know if they don’t offer Brander a deal, he walks for free as a DFA, essentially making him worthless, West Coast aren’t stupid, so I doubt they have done this.

I think it’s more likely that West Coast have told Brander to look elsewhere and have offered him a really poor one year deal.

As trade period is quite a bit before the DFA period, players run the risk of not taking a trade and then being offered a crap one year deal and having to stay or nominate for the draft.

Id be keen on a straight swap

Clarkson, Bevo, Choco Williams....& crazy Vossy! To name but only a few. Not seeing a lot of 'normal' in much of the coaching fratenity. Scarlett would be a good get.

Brander fills a position we have a severe lack of though and one that WC are well covered in. I’m assuming we are only discussing him as a potential KPD/swing man

He was a pick 6 in the National draft- wether his recent form is this or that for this or that reason - is one thing - getting the very best deal for him leaving is the responsibility of the football department - it isnt the repsonsibility of the football department to signal 'good riddance' to any asset - it the responsibility opf the dept to get the most it can - and Carlton should define what most is - not WC.

Carlton is under NO compulsion to FINALISE anything- it is up to WC to FINALISE is my point ie makes us happy to lose a pick 6 with so much potential and upside etc ertc

Not sure if it is right but I read today that because SPS has not been offered a contract he can make himself a free agent.

John Brown on AFL 360 also said when asked if Carlton should expect to make the 8: "*sigh* who would expect to make the 8... I know Michael Voss will come in and drive that expectation, he mightn't say that publicly but they're not that far off

A sentence or 2 later he did also say something like "If Voss is the man", so I don't know if he was trying to cover his tracks or initially meant "if Voss takes over" but neglected to say "if".

Could've slipped out unintentionally. I love Browny but he isn't the sharpest tool so it wouldn't surprise me.
