I'd play RCD in a rejigged team that is more heavy in inside mids than we usually are. When we lose we get smashed inside. So given where we are at I would just basically add another inside mid to the team so that we can keep the rotations up for 4 quarters.

Might hit our balance a little, but what use is balance if we get smashed regularly.

Nearly all sides have a strong inside mid brigade. Maybe not Geelong off the top of my head, but most sides. We are very light on for inside mids, the only one I though was inside was Ross, but he gets little time in there. Cotchin is, but he's not the player he was, Dow is a bit, but more when the ball is on the move/ Prestia is but injured. Graham rarely gets first hands on the ball and dishes off, more kicks than handballs.

RCD has been getting down and dirty in the VFL and deserves promotion for it, even more so given how nobody else is, especially late in the game when the speed has reduced, which is when we the strong players come to the fore.

Aarts has been sub, got half and a 1/4 game the last two weeks. RCD needs game time on the bench. Aarts is the perfect sub, not the worst player ever, but better than wasting a developing kids time.

Agree to disagree.
We're wasting time giving game time to Aarts, who is not the present or future.

I do see the logic behind Aarts as sub
Can play a few different roles (not very well but is versatile enough) and can offer a little bit of leg speed if injected late into a game but plenty of others could do the same

Mansell would be alright as a sub while he isn’t in the 22 imo or even Edwards
Has a lot of experience and has played every end of the ground at some point, he isn’t setting the world on fire form wise so also gives us a chance to use his spot for one of the younger guys

FWIW the coaches report on his game from the weekend

Despite some of the sentiment in here it seems he is doing a good job in the eyes of the coaches

“Riley Collier-Dawkins (24 disposals, six tackles, six clearances)
"Really high contested possessions and for the second week in a row, stepped in to tackle with intent. He's continuing his good form."

A lot of posters on here seem to be willing him to fail. The fact of the matter is that each game he's played this year has been an improvement on the last, and he looked really good on the weekend

People forget that he didn't start the season on a level playing field with everyone else. Was nursing bruised ribs leading into round 1.

Would you rather give one quarter and another half to one of our kids who would be better, especially this time of the year getting form and fitness in the VFL.

Yes, I would rather have a kid playing a quarter and a half, preferably two, as opposed to a guy with a limited future.
I get confused when we talk of getting fitness. These are professional athletes, who have been training since October.

His situation's been explained over and over, but it doesn't seem to sink in with his critics. ;)

He'll remind people what he's made of in the seniors (yet again) when he gets a run, same way Dow has. :thumbsu:

Cumberland didn't do much in the VFL.

The other two are a chance. Not sure RCD has done enough yet though.
Pissing rain doesn't generally translate to big numbers for a forward pocket. Cummies got moved up onto the ball in spurts but he hasn't had much exposure there and again, pissing rain. I reckon he's shown enough to have earned a call up even with a lacklustre game behind him.
RCD I want to see given a go but I agree, he genuinely hasn't earned it yet. I want to see him smashing it in the VFL first.

Cumberland may well end a Stringer type IMO. Burst on baller who can still create a mis match forward . However his defensive efforts at times doesn’t yet warrant selection .

Lol I bet if you took the time to go through the history of coaches report you'll notice the coach is always extremely complimentary to the players regardless. Werribee beat us by a 100 points last year and 20 players were putrid at best but reading Xavier Clarke's report (cut and paste nonsense) you'd swear we won by 500 points. It's like the day after the draft every kid is likened to a champion ya never see the comment this kids shit will be the next Troy Taylor.

Na they are generally pretty honest from what I have found

Take a few from the weekends game

Tom Brown (12 disposals, three marks, three inside-50s)

"He showed glimpses of his class on the weekend, but probably let himself down a little bit with his positioning and contest work which is a real focus for him."

Ben Miller (nine disposals, five marks, three rebound-50s)

"Was a little bit quieter on the weekend. He didn't have much of an offensive input, but we saw what he can do the previous week at AFL level."

Maurice Rioli (six disposals, three inside-50s, two clearances)

"A lot quieter than he was in previous weeks. He received a fair bit of attention and struggled to work his way into the game."

Well hopefully Morris keeps consistent. Xavier Clarke and previous coaches comments were pathetic to read. RCD is still looking like a journey man who plays 20 games for us and gets another chance at another club by virtue of another club thinking he never had enough opportunity. He's lazy and needs some mongrel too soft for mine someone should've toughened him up as a kid a la Jack Watts.

I don’t see the VFL coach’s reports that way at all. They have often mentioned things players need to work on or that a player didn’t have a great game. Have a look at this week’s VFL report:

Morris mentions:

- Sonsie’s improved defensive intent which infers there was room for improvement there

- Clarke “continues to improve” but wasn’t as clean as he would like

- Banks had “less impact this week”

- Cumberland had a quieter day and it was a good chance for his to continue to learn different aspects of his game

- Tom Brown let himself down a bit with his positioning and contest work

And so on. If you read these reports consistently I think you can often get a real insight into where a player is with his development. Obviously they are not going to broadcast every last weakness of every player or publicly humiliate players but they do give a fair insight imo.

Ya clearly can't read. I said they were worthless in the past. Morris has coached 2 games not much chance for your so called consistency.
