Bendigo vs Willy

Jarrod Atkinson is a potential mature age recruit. the only reason he is at bendigo is a recomendation from hickmont after coaching him at rumba last year. he realy dominated i n the murray league once he committed himself. ...maybe i have said too much... there might be more to this story...

Where did he and Reimers play at Peel........??

Peel Thunder in 2006,were a very young WAFL side with about 70% of their list under 23 years of age.

They got some hammerings.

So some of the more important jobs were taken (no choice) by young 18-19-20 year olds.

Danny Chartres was played in the ruck,at CHF,full back..but mainly at CHB.

He had 6 games around the BOG mark in a row at one stage and just went all day.

Reimers was used everywhere..in the backline mainly, but he loved a run up the wings and kicked some nice runing goals.

Bradley is a bit like Damian Cupido and 100's of others. They can't handle the pressure and quick thinking needed to play AFL,but go extremely well at VFL and (in Cupido's case) SANFL level.

Cloke as well....doing well at BBs..no chance of playong AFL again.

Wish Danny Chartres was not on the rookie list....I'd give him a run over Bolton atm.

Dont agree Nobby. Bradley was used in a position that suits him and he played better footy. When he can play forward and lead up to the ball and then kick long at the goals or deep into the forward line he doesnt stuff up any where near as much. He has to be played in a psoition that suits his what he can do well. Put him in the back half in the VFL all day and he stuffs up just as much as he does in the seniors. His decision making under defencive pressure is simply horrible at all levels. When he plays forward he doesnt have that pressure. When he leads up the ground he is in front 99% of the time and he took 90% of the marks that came his way.

Just want to touch on Cloke here. He deserves to be looked at. His work rate during a game is unbelievable and is something a few of our mids need to look at and hang their heads in shame. The only query i have on Cloke is his kicking.

As for DC he may well take the place of Bolts next year but based purely on VFL form he is not better than Bolts at the moment. That of course could change.

I said the firt time i saw him in the seconds that if was prepared to comit himself he could have a decent VFL career and possibly be looked at as an AFL player.

From today...

Houli - deserves a spot. hard at it, big motor, swift decision making, good disposal. gets forward and can kick goals

Lonergan - looks the goods . tough

Kepler - played well. presented hard, took some great grabs, kicking ok

Cole - hard at it, good disposal today, tries really hard. can be made to look a little slow at times

Chatres - gonna be good...!!!

Dick - as above...weaves out of trouble McLeod like (I wish) that last quarter sprint out of defence was brilliant.

Lee - strong on the lead, average disposal today

Plays of the day : 1. without doubt...Houli taking it in the pocket , scooping up on the run the bending a left foot banana through the sticks..brilliant

2. Dicks run out of the backline. got found out a few times but at least he takes risks.

3. Keplers one take grab in the 3rd quarter. right in front of me, very strong, poor kick for goal though.

4. Cole running onto a 50-50 ball, taking it one grab and smashing through a pack

All in all, a good performance from the guys. whoever was number 9 for them saved them 3 times with courageous play in the dying minutes. Always running but just didnt quite get over the line.

Who would I consider bringing in to the side..??

Kepler Bradley - play him off a forward pocket.
Bachar Houli - must play to see how he goes. looks much better than anyone out there..
Richard Cole - possible replacement for MJ..??
Sam Lonergan - like this kid. tough..

Add to that
Hille
Lloyd

Fantastic report, thanks for that. Hopefully if Kepler gets another go he will be used as a forward, looks better there, like your ins/outs aswell. Hope Cole keeps his head switched on.

Do you think Cole could get a game for overrated this week?

Do you think you could one day add something sensible to any conversation at some stage.

I was also at the game on Sunday, really impressed with how we fought the match out despite the absence of many key players and young guns. The match took a similar trend to recent Essendon games with Bendigo skipping away to a handy lead, then Willy had a dominant patch to move two goals clear late in the third and look like they would go on with it. But the boys showed great heart to fight it out and in the end the result could have gone either way.

Was great to be watching a red & black team dominate the clearances! McKinnon's ruck work was great and almost always gave the mid-fielders first use (except the last two stoppages with two dubious ruck frees against). Houli & Lonergan were great in the middle, with Houli's engine & superior skills obvious to all & sundry. I would be shocked if he doesn't debut on Friday night. Not sure if Lonergan is quite ready yet, but should be in contention fairly soon. Bradley was brilliant, I haven't found stats for the match, but I thought he took at least 20 marks, many of them contested one-grabbers. His kicking is still a concern, but was much less loopy than Anzac Day. His body language was confident all day, so I don't think confidence should be a factor at the selection table.

Cole was solid across half back & rebounded well, although as much as I agree that MJ needs to be omitted to find form with Bendigo, I don't think Cole is quite ready to replace him this week.

Chartres also impressive, spent time on first round draft pick Ben Reid and nullified his influence. Collingwood's other first round draft pick Nathan Brown was very impressive across half back and thrawted many of our attacks.

Looking forward to when Gumby, Jetta, Hislop, Dempsey & Neagle are all back in.

Good to hear about Bradley, I just hope they settle him up forward for a time at Bendigo before thinking about promoting him - plenty of work to do. He'll probably need to have a lot of confidence in himself and the role he'll be playing to overcome the mental hurdle's of his recent senior performances. Who is willing to put money on the possibility that after staring for Bendigo for weeks on end up forward Sheeds promotes him and puts him at CHB on Jonathan Brown or something similar just to completely destroy him?

Why for Christ sake didn't he do that when Sheedy put him in the forward line in the seniors?

He can't play back, gets lost in the FL at league level and runs around like a demented chook when they play him on the wing.

4 weeks at least playing well (really well) for BBs...and then maybe give him another chance.....big maybe!
