$550 isn’t a lot of money for an AFL player these days. Not since there was a (iirc) 30% increase in the cap.

I’d be filthy on the club if they don’t pony up for Cam but pay $900k for Hill. It would be ridiculous.

If you’re referring to Souva when he was on the footy show, he just played a straight bat. Wouldn’t put too much stock in it

The BNF on tomorrow will give us some answers I think. If there is no announcement of him signing then the possibility that he is leaving is more likely. He would have an offer from us. Knows what we have moving forward no that we have signed Clarkson and Viney. He would have spoken with them. If it is Essendon, then there would be nothing stopping that being announced. If no signature and no Essendon announcement then there is a chance there is another team in his ear, and they are probably still playing finals.

JHF aside, I would love Tom to come to North. Has 1 year left on his current contract. He was before being drafted was a Hawthorn supporter, could Clarkson entice him back to Victoria in 2024?

You're right, according to the AFL, average player payments increased from $260K in 2020 to 372K in 2021, not including rookies. 2020 was a 30% decrease on 2019 due to Covid.

If your bottom 10 players are getting $200K, there's a lot left.

First of all we didn't offer that contract to Hill and if he dies come then the Saints will be paying part of his salary. With regards to the size of Zurhaar contract, I would not be offering 700k because he would be on equal or more than Cunners.

He'd certainly be in the top 20% of players on our list in terms of his importance to us.

700k would put him in the top 7% of AFL player salaries.

Personally I'd have him as one of our 6 or 7 most important players at the moment.

Fair enough, but Cunners and Zurhaar at different stages of their careers. We’re also obligated to pay most of the cap.
