So freo is allowed use future first and 2nd
After the AFL says you can’t do that , a change of rules halfway through, and people still pay to watch a rigged competition

They will be better next year with Grundy over Jackson for sure.

Gawn will just play forward more. Every time Jackson was in the ruck he got owned. He's good around the ground but I don't see a dominant #1 ruck in him now or in the future
poor mans vickjesus

**** this
I don’t even want Hopper anymore
Jack Ross will do just fine and we keep our good picks and Soldo

Getting bent over and played by Plastics make me sick 🤮🤮🤮

Not sure about that. Jackson had more potential as a forward than both Gawn and Grundy. Gawn was horrid when playing as a legit forward, Grundy is even worse.

Cash is cash. And if Hopper ends up staying, thats more panic dumping GWS have to do - with players that actually havent expressed an interest to move. At least Hopper has shown he will move.

And on the reputation point... you talk as though other clubs will remember good deeds done in the past. They wont. GWS wont give a s**t about deals we've done, they'll still go into trying to get the best deal for them - they cant even remember a deal that was done last week!! Already they're banked that and are now keen for us to pay overs again.

Reputation... lol. Its not like we've done a Dodoro for the last 21 years.

I think our reputation with other teams in neither here nor there.. it’s reputation with other players that’s important..

Dags has answered your post here with the right answer.

You are thinking only in terms of the deal, and winning or losing the deal in relation to the other club. The main reason we are involved with these Taranto and Hopper deals is our good reputation and intent is clear for all to see.

1. GWS says to certain player managers with good currency we are struggling with our cap, you are free to go and seek opportunities at other clubs as we cannot pay you what you are worth. We need a decent return though.

2. Managers speak the players to guage which sort of clubs may appeal.

3. Managers then speak to a range of clubs to gauge the market, perhaps avoiding or relegating clubs thast are notoriously tricky in these situations. Richmond says yes we want your man, we can offer x money and y draft picks.

4. Managers have a quick scan of the market and realise Richmond can satisfy both the player and GWS, and they can agree on the finer details and all switch focus to other important areas. The players are off the market. This is a key and under-rated element to any deal. With every dollar or draft pick you try to save you move incrementally towards missing out on the player. Sure, we are paying a good price in salary and picks, but we have more or less secured the players, two desperately needed young prime-aged quality inside mids.

If Richmond had a reputation for trying funny tricks to win deals, there is every chance we don’t get either one or both of Taranto and Hopper to nominate our club in the first place. You can engage in brinkmanship and try to squeeze every last drop from this deal, but if another club is more accommodating to deal with, they will get priority at all of the above stages in the process in future. That is not worth it for the sake of saving a few hundred draft points.

Potential is the word. Jackson was often disappointing for them. Gawn lost ruck time to Jackson because they had to develop him and they were much worse off.

Melbourne win the trade long term unless Jackson gains a nasty streak/physicality to him in the ruck

Given the absolute powerhouse that will be our midfield, losing Nank and playing the next best on the list will not be as dire.

Ryan will be a bloody good player, watch this space.

Worst case, Balta is deployed as Ruck and we have effectively have another midfielder.
Agree with you Morro. I honestly thought at the end of this past season that I couldn’t see a spot for big Ivan, and that he would really battle to get a game, especially with Ryan improving leaps and bounds. I’ve changed a little at the thought of a 5 person bench, but even then, I think Ryan can do the job.
Just need to add another ruck somehow in case injuries bite hard in that area, but with Prestia, Taranto, Cotchin and Hopper in at the centre bounce, we should still be ok imo

Jackson will be one of the premier rucks in the comp, Dees would've preferred to keep him. Not sure he fits in @ Freo with Darcy either, same as Grundy to Dees. Bit of a weird one all round.

For those saying they'll rather miss on on Hopper because Ross can do the same job please just stop. Go back and learn the game. Different players, if Ross could do what Hopper could I don't think we'd be looking at Hopper.

People have said this?

Been a Jack Ross fan since his early days but he's changed as a player. They basically developed him into an outside player who ocasionally wins the inside ball. And he started to look good in that role.

He's not the inside player that came into the club as a rookie. Hopper is an inside bull who racks up clearances. He's actually a fair bit better on the inside than Taranto.

Agreed, Jackson is a perfect 2nd/3rd tall 2nd ruck. He’s def not a number 1 ruck but has the ability to turn a game. I don’t think Melbourne will have the right balance with Gawn and Grundy
