Give it time.Better this than him coming back and tearing it again.
Off the injury list today and might be back on it tomorrow
that is most likely how he got the kissing disease that wrecked his first two seasonsI really hope I'm wrong but this guy is starting to look like a bit of a heartbreaker.

We know he's had some discomfort and now needs more scans. It's possible he wouldn't have played anyway but scans and discomfort aren't what you want the week, or week before, you return to play.I’ll ask again, was he ever anything but ‘test’ on the injury list?
We don’t actually know anything, do we?
Yes he was test and likely to play this week. But he’s now gone for scans which would indicate another issue has arisenI’ll ask again, was he ever anything but ‘test’ on the injury list?

denial <— you are hereSo situation still hasn’t really changed. Lots of jumping at shadows at this point. They are understandably cautious.
You’d have to make it very clear that this is for his own good because he won’t like itbut I’d almost shut him down for the whole year and just work on his body. Lots of core, bit of pilates.
Any gains he gets out of playing this year will probably get cancelled out by the fact that he’ll be 10 kilos heavier in 18 months and a radically different athlete.
A weak core, poor spinal flexibility and tight hamstrings seem to cause a lot of preventable problems, particularly in young talls whose muscles and tendons haven't caught up with the size of their skeleton, and I guess those who spend way too much time sitting. So situation still hasn’t really changed. Have mentioned it before but all of this is a reason why I say we may have contributed to his injuries by trying to play him at every chance early on .A weak core, poor spinal flexibility and tight hamstrings seem to cause a lot of preventable problems, particularly in young talls whose muscles and tendons haven't caught up with the size of their skeleton, and I guess those who spend way too much time sitting.
Wouldn't be half surprised if stuff like ACLs and groin injuries are also related.
Totally agree with you.Have mentioned it before but all of this is a reason why I say we may have contributed to his injuries by trying to play him at every chance early on .
I don’t see why they would be any different to any other frame, just at a different stage of development that requires a different conditioning program, although from what I was reading about back stress fractures the other day, some people do have thinner vertebrae that are more susceptible to stress fractures.Totally agree with you.
One other thing to ponder….are some frames just not designed for AFL footy? And if so, can that be “fixed” ?
Not sure you can do anything other than ease them through until they are 23/24 but even then it is not a guarantee.Totally agree with you.

We drafted Hayes with our second rounder last year.Serious injury issues every year he’s been in the AFL. Time to find a big KPD as the chances of him making it are now none too slim. Ben McKay needs to be our main target
Who is 2 to 3 years away at least . Are we spending the next 5 years waiting for one of the skinny bean poles to make it as a FB ?We drafted Hayes with our second rounder last year.
Not sure about leg press, but I'm fairly sure you arch your back a little for a proper bench press. Lift comes through your chest, shoulders and arms. Not a lot of lower back there at all.I don’t see why they would be any different to any other frame, just at a different stage of development that requires a different conditioning program, although from what I was reading about back stress fractures the other day, some people do have thinner vertebrae that are more susceptible to stress fractures.
But it’s mostly caused by putting too much load through the lower back, so like bench press or leg press with your back not straight and core not strong enough? And with that, the angle of the pelvis tilted from the back position and then associated hamstring issues…
I reckon we need two on the list. Baldwin to stay and maybe McKay is looking a more likely option.Who is 2 to 3 years away at least . Are we spending the next 5 years waiting for one of the skinny bean poles to make it as a FB ?
BZT is now 5 years in and he is not really the genuine FB that plays on the stronger FF types. We do actually need a bit of a gorilla type FB. Baldwin is the only one of that type if he makes it.
