Fisher is worth a late 2nd with the side benefit that we get rid of some salary
Dow is worth a late 3rd/early 4th given he is uncontracted

If the roles were reversed we would not be wanting to pay much more. If we end up with more than what was stated it's a bonus imo.

If we offered a contracted player 5 years and more money to jump across to us we would be asked to pay up.

Jack Martin, similar level of player at the time of trade, similar contract on offer, we had two seconds on the table despite the fact he was uncontracted.

I would be disappointed if a second isn't involved in the Fisher trade.

Dow, we just have to hope the Saints play nice. If they walked him to the draft would another club get in their way? Your evaluation would be pretty spot on.

Would we have a look at Joel Hamling?

No, the proposal is we'd get 39 for Fisher.
It means Fisher + Dow for Hollands. So not quite what you've written, but still bad.

its the time of the year where we are all list managers - here’s my version:

Fish & our F3 (likely 50ish)
for
52 & Nth’s F3 (likely to be around 40)

happy to send Dow & 52 to St Kilda for #32

#32 could be for Hollands but I’d probably want a junk pick in the 60s in this draft or.a F4just to maintain flexibility re rookie upgrades etc.

Edit TLDR:

Out: Dow, Fish, F3 (50ish)
In: Hollands, 66, F3 (40ish)

For perspective re Dow possible trade. Here are some trades from last year

Bobby Hill and Pick 40. GWS gets Pick 43
Carlton gets Blake Acres. Fremantle receives a future third-round pick. (Pick 55)
Gold Coast gets Ben Long and the Saints’ future fourth-round pick. St Kilda gets Pick 32.
GWS Giants get Toby Bedford. Melbourne gets Pick 44
Essendon gets Will Setterfield and Pick 68. Carlton gets the Bombers’ future fourth-round pick.
Melbourne gets Brodie Grundy. Collingwood gets Pick 27.
Collingwood gets Billy Frampton. Adelaide gets the Magpies’ future third-round pick.
Essendon gets Sam Weideman and Picks 57 and 72. Melbourne gets Pick 37.
Melbourne gets Lachie Hunter. The Western Bulldogs get the Demons’ future third-round pick.

Bloody Hard to get Picks under 35 for players that aren't best 22 these days. I want Dow to stay but I can't see us getting much for him
This useful. I reckon he’s worth more than Setterfield but probably less than Blacres? Maybe same as Blacres

Does any regular VFL watchers think Akuei will break into the side in 2024 (Pending Injuries)?

I've seen a few quarters here and there but he was playing as a Ruck.
I'm more interested in knowing if he will cut it as a defender?

Don't think he makes it as a defender

Would play him forward next year

not hugely.

market changes from year to year and is based on relative rather than absolute value.
I’m not sure the market for out of contract, non best 22 players changes that much year to year because there are always a similar crop of buyers in the market. Dow has some factors that increase his value but would be around the edges.

People often point to GF teams not having elite rucks as something meaningful.

Does the presence of elite small forwards work to the contrary?

Elliott and Hill?
Stengle and Miers?
Pickett and Fritsch?
The 7 forward pockets that Richmond played?

I'm not sure I see any of our current 3 projecting as top shelf. Maybe Mots...but the lack of toe works against him.

Is this our obvious area of upgrade?

It is. I don’t think Durds is slow, but maybe not to the level of Hill or Pickett.

If there was a player in draft or trade with zip and speed then it’s definitely a piece of the puzzle that would haunt opposition defences.

The issue as I see it, is that it seems its the club that is more keen to move Fish on, rather than the Roos chasing a contracted and wanted player.

This will probably bring our return down.

How often are key forwards effective in finals these days?

Love this.... I am trying to remember the last KPF star that has really won a GF. They tend to get the star KPD on them and it all neutralises

Find the Fisher trade strange, why would you leave a potential top 4 side next year for a guaranteed bottom 4 side. The guy is contracted for the next two years why not fight for a spot in your preferred position, guess thats why his departure wont be missed.

Are we pushing to move him on? I think they have had honest discussions around his position in the side going forward, and he has decided that it would be best to move clubs if he wants to play regular AFL football. We are willing to facilitate that, but we should be fairly compensated for an AFL quality player worth a 4+ year contract.

I don’t believe it is a salary dump or a move Carlton is forcing, which is what some are suggesting.

A second rounder being involved should be the aim. The draft is quite shallow this year and they have picks coming out of their ass next year. No need to play hardball but no need to roll over either.

How excited are we to grab Holland’s?
I see him as that power med fwd type who can run through the middle competing with Fog and Cunnners for a spot.
For a comparison:
Petracca: 27, 187cm, 94kg
Raynor: 23, 186cm, 93kg
Holland’s: 21, 189, 86kg

Can he become that type of player for us?

Possible, but we still need picks for next year's campo boys

Saints will back themselves to finish higher, same us North, so both those clubs will want to use future picks

Why not just bring in picks next year?

We have no 2nd and 3rd this year and if we had a father son rated as a late 1st and late 2nd this year, we would have no problem bringing them in and targeting a player.
