**** crowieFive AA was playing in the background just then.
Justice Rowe says Finlayson MUST get 6 weeks because his slur is no different to the racial slur that cost Taylor Walker 6 weeks. That is just Rowe being Rowe and playing to his audience of course.
But I have to agree with Koch - the AFL set the standard with a suspended sentence for Clarkson, an experienced and mature coach and leader of the AFL for his homophobic slur. They can hardly hand out a sizeable suspension to a player just a few weeks later.
NarratorFive AA was playing in the background just then.
Justice Rowe says Finlayson MUST get 6 weeks because under AFL rules his homophobic slur is no different to the racial slur that cost Taylor Walker 6 weeks. That is just Rowe being Rowe and playing to his audience of course. There are considerable differences between incidents including the fact that Walker was not involved in the game and neither he nor the crows owned up to what had happened and it took a formal report from one of the crows own trainers for them to acknowledge the incident.
Not to downplay the seriousness of the incident, but I have to agree with Koch - the AFL set the standard with a suspended sentence for Clarkson, an experienced and mature coach and leader of the AFL for his homophobic slur. They can hardly hand out a sizeable suspension to a player just a few weeks later.

I suppose it is a matter of what 'double standards' path they choose.Narrator
“Yes they will”
Well, that fine is inappropriate.Nikola Jokic got fined $25k for saying "no homo" during a press conference and he earns tens of millions, or did at the time.
20k is a huge fine in context.
So we are now dishing out penalties based on the Rainbows Crows Committee? A supporter ground from a team not even involved in the game.I suppose it is a matter of what 'double standards' path they choose.
But yeah - I can see Jezza getting games and probably deservedly.

Was in the process of editing my comment when we lost power for a moment. Absolutely agree - they are playing politics on this.Just out of interest, did they release a statement on Walker? Or Clarkson? Or do they only have an opinion when it is a player from the cross town rivals?
Point being, not their place to put out a statement.
C'mon - you know why.I’m still missing how Finlayson’s first on field incident is worse than Clarkson’s numerous off field incidents.
They should have given Clarkson weeks and didn’t. Not sure why Finlayson should be used as a new benchmark just a few weeks later.
It would be interesting to contrast this to the statement they released about Clarkson.I suppose it is a matter of what 'double standards' path they choose.
But yeah - I can see Jezza getting a couple of games and probably deservedly. But that certainly exposes the AFL hypocrisy.
Crows Gay group statement making the link to the Walker suspension pretty obvious. Demonstrating a lack of class in the process imho by playing inter-club politics.
Finlayson apologised to the player dafter the game and owned up with a public apology the next day. Contrast that with the ducking and weaving of your mate Tex on his racism slur.

And now the Advertiser have posted an opinion piece from one of their staff - Emily Olle - attacking Finlayson and Port.
Not mentioned in the byline is the fact that Emily Olle was previously employed as the Digital content manager for the Adelaide Crows. So no bias or agenda there.
That thread got... inoculated, yes.
This one needs a full body enema through it, like old Vlad Dracul used to do in the time of the Ottomans. Right through to the fezzes.
Who knew our mods were also medical practitioners??
Finny has hopefully learned a lesson.
Should have taken your advice. Terrible article, a very unbalanced “opinion” that missed the obvious regarding the Clarkson incident and made some unsubstantiated claims.Every Emily Olle opinion piece is usually trash, tends to whinge, alot and be outrage central over very simplistic things. I'd just not give her the clicks tbh.
Her opinion on this really doesn't matter. He's gonna get weeks regardless of what she thinks lol.
We agree. It's like calling Cameron Ling a Black campaigner.Calling a straight person a slur for gay people is not the same thing as calling a black person a slur for black people. If somebody called Josh Cavallo a homophobic slur, then yeah, they can and should cop 6 weeks.
So essentially Emily is just pond scumAnd now the Advertiser have posted an opinion piece from one of their staff - Emily Olle - attacking Finlayson and Port.
