Sounds like it wasn't meant to be a derogatory insult to a homosexual player, and was just a throwaway insult. In that respect the charge is use of derogatory language, and is bad enough to be scrutinised publicly, and perhaps even get a week for.

But comparisons to Walker's racism are way off the mark as he was using racist language to target a player based explicitly on their race. So in his case it was the action that was derogatory, not just the language used. The severity of that offence was much greater and warranted the larger punishment.

If it wasn’t for a cows SANFL official reporting it Walker would have got away with it no accountability nothing how people are comparing the two is laughable.

Not that it makes it okay, but surely you have to factor in his Jeremy's mental health into the equation. Not just his mental state at the time he said it, but also the impact of suspending him for multiple games and what that will do to him. The guy is probably going through more than anyone in the comp at the moment. Give him a fine and a suspended sentence, where if he messes up again, he then cops a suspension.

AFL is all about mental health, but dragging this on as long as they have already is not doing any good for Jez's mental welfare either.

Fair enough that Jeremy cops a fine or maybe even 1-2 weeks, but **** I'm so over the treatment our players get. Whenever something happens with our boys we cop the absolute maximum sentence, every single time. We live in a state where apart from maybe 2 media personalities, the rest are Crows fans that actively barrack for and promote huge suspensions. Then you have the rest of the country that seems to love the opportunity to bring us down. It's ridiculous. SPP was bad enough, an absolute ridiculous and over the top precedent setting suspension. Now here we are with a simple one word slip of the tongue, a word that despite being bad has been in the vernacular forever until maybe the last 5-10 years. Education is the answer, and a reasonable penalty. Not these 6+ week type things I'm hearing which are just ridiculous suspension levels.

I get the modern society position, the evolution of our PC nature, which is certainly not a bad thing, but the trial by media, the persecution of people over such minor things is just out of control in this modern social media age.
